" How did you get such a nice place?" asked Rat

" Well, my aunt left me the house," said Mole
“嗯，这房子是我姑妈留给我的，”鼹鼠说。

" Wonderful!" cried Rat
“太棒了！”水鼠叫道。

" And I got my plants from the swamp," said Mole
“这些植物是我从沼泽地里弄来的，”鼹鼠说。

" Very nice," said Rat
“非常不错，”水鼠说。

" And I bought the pictures myself," said Mole
“这些画是我自己买的，”鼹鼠说。

Mole set the table as he talked
鼹鼠一边说着，一边摆好了餐桌。

Rat brought the frying pan to the table
水鼠把煎锅端到了桌上。

" And your glass ball?" asked Rat
“那你的玻璃球呢？”水鼠问。

" Someone threw that out," grinned Mole
“那是别人扔掉的，”鼹鼠咧嘴笑着说。

" Can you believe it?"
“你能相信吗？”

" Well, you know what they say," said Rat
“嗯，你知道人们常说的那句话，”水鼠说。

" Is another person's treasure!" laughed Mole
“就是另一个人的宝贝！”鼹鼠大笑着说。

They heard a noise outside

Mole listened and heard tiny voices at his door

" I think it's the field mice," said Mole happily

" They sing carols at this time of year."
“每年这个时候他们都会唱圣诞颂歌。”

" Well, let me see them!" shouted Rat
“哦，让我见见他们！”水鼠高声喊道。

He jumped up and ran to the door

Rat's cheerfulness made Mole smile
