It was not easy to survive in the forest

Thumbelina used a leaf as an umbrella when it rained

At night she slept on soft moss in a tree root

Every morning, Thumbelina washed her face with dew from the grass

Then she'd climb a flower and eat a petal or two

" I'm tired of eating flowers every day," she said

She was nibbling on a lily

她正小口啃着一朵百合花。

" Tired of flowers?" said a red bug with black dots

“厌倦了花朵？”一只带黑点的红色虫子说。

" Oh, I'm sorry," said Thumbelina

“哦，对不起。”拇指姑娘说。

" I didn't see you

我没看见你。

I'll go to another flower."

我去别的花上。

" I'm a ladybug. I don't eat flowers," said the bug

“我是瓢虫。我不吃花。”那只虫子说。

" I eat tiny insects."

“我吃小昆虫。”

旁白 neutral

" Don't eat me!

别吃我！

旁白 neutral

I'm not an insect. I'm Thumbelina."

我不是昆虫。我是拇指姑娘。

" And my name is Ladybird," laughed the ladybug

我的名字是瓢虫，瓢虫笑着说。

" Would you like these insects?

你想吃这些昆虫吗？

旁白 neutral

They're very good."

它们很好吃。

" No, thank you," Thumbelina said quickly

不用了，谢谢，拇指姑娘连忙说。

" How about some blueberries?" said Ladybird, smiling

来点蓝莓怎么样？瓢虫笑着说。

" I can show you where they grow. Follow me."

我可以带你去它们生长的地方。跟我来。

Thumbelina clapped her hands and said

拇指姑娘拍了拍手，说：

Suddenly the ladybug opened her wings to fly

突然，瓢虫张开了翅膀要飞起来。

The lily started to move back and forth

Thumbelina lost her balance and fell off the flower

拇指姑娘失去平衡，从花上摔了下来。

" Hey!" She landed on a sand hill and slid down a dark tunnel

“嘿！”她掉在一个沙堆上，滑进了一条黑乎乎的隧道。

" Enemy alert!" someone shouted

“有敌人！”有人喊道。

Thumbelina was inside an anthill

拇指姑娘发现自己在一个蚁穴里。

Many ants were lined up like soldiers

许多蚂蚁像士兵一样排着队。

A big ant pointed at her

一只大蚂蚁指着她。

" Get out, stranger!"

“出去，陌生人！”

" I... what happened was...," Thumbelina stammered

“我……事情是……”拇指姑娘结结巴巴地说。

" We must protect our queen

“我们必须保护我们的女王。

Forward march!" the ant shouted

前进！”那只蚂蚁喊道。

" Please, it's all a mistake

“求求你们，这都是误会。

I'll get out," Thumbelina cried

我会出去的。”拇指姑娘叫道。

She tried to climb back up the tunnel

她试图顺着隧道爬回去。

" This sand is so slippery!" she said, frustrated

“这沙子太滑了！”她沮丧地说。

" Capture the enemy!" shouted the ants

“抓住敌人！”蚂蚁们喊道。

Finally Thumbelina climbed up and out

拇指姑娘终于爬了上去，逃了出来。

She glanced behind her

她朝身后瞥了一眼。

It looked like a black wave was coming toward her

看起来就像一股黑色的浪潮正朝她涌来。

" What am I going to do?" she cried

“我该怎么办？”她叫道。

" Keep marching!" shouted the big ant to the others

“继续前进！”那只大蚂蚁对其他的蚂蚁喊道。

Thumbelina turned and ran as fast as she could

拇指姑娘转身拼命地跑。

" There are so many of them!"

“它们太多了！”

she screamed, afraid to look behind her again

她尖叫着，害怕再回头看。

Just then Thumbelina saw a small hole in a tree

就在这时，拇指姑娘看到树上有个小洞。

She ran inside and hid herself with a fallen leaf

她跑了进去，用一片落叶把自己藏起来。

" Maybe they won't find me here," she gasped

“也许它们在这里找不到我。”她喘着气说。

The ants ran around the tree and kept going

蚂蚁们绕着树跑，然后继续向前。

Their voices faded

它们的声音渐渐消失了。

At last Thumbelina could not hear them anymore

拇指姑娘终于再也听不到它们的声音了。

Thumbelina was safe for now

拇指姑娘暂时安全了。
