Thomas was a big man with bushy red hair and a bushy red beard

As he bent down to get a drink, he heard something. Splash!

He looked up and saw a large green frog swimming in the pond, and he laughed

I thought my ax had fallen into the pond."

He took one more drink from the fresh water and reached for his ax, but it was gone

He looked around. He scratched his bushy red beard and said," Where is my ax?"

他环顾四周，挠了挠浓密的红胡子，说道：“我的斧头呢？”

He looked at the frog." Did you take my ax?" But the frog quickly swam away

他看着那只青蛙。“你拿了我的斧头吗？”可是青蛙飞快地游走了。

The pond looked very deep, and Thomas the lumberjack didn't know how to swim

池塘看起来很深，伐木工托马斯不会游泳。

He was just about to give up hope of getting back his ax when a golden-haired sprite swam up out of the pond

他正要放弃找回斧头的希望时，一个金发小精灵从池塘里游了上来。

" Is this silver ax yours?" she asked

Thomas was startled," Who are you?"

" I'm a water sprite. Is this silver ax yours?" she repeated

" I heard something fall into the pond."

" No, I had a simple ax made of wood," Thomas answered

The sprite dove back into the pond, and Thomas sat down

精灵又潜入池塘，托马斯坐了下来。

" How can I be a lumberjack without an ax?" he thought

“没有斧头，我还怎么当伐木工呢？”他想。

While he was thinking, the sprite returned

他正想着，精灵又回来了。

" Is this gold ax yours?"

“这把金斧头是你的吗？”

旁白 neutral

" What? Gold! I'm sorry, no. I had a simple ax made of wood," he said

“什么？金的！对不起，不是。我只有一把普通的木斧头。”他说。

The water sprite dove back down into the pond

水精灵又潜入池塘里去了。

She wasn't gone long when she returned." Is this wooden ax yours?"

她没去多久就又回来了。“这把木斧头是你的吗？”

Thomas looked at the ax and smiled because it was surely the ax he had lost

托马斯看着斧头笑了，因为这肯定是他丢失的那把斧头。

" Yes, that's mine. It's a simple ax made of wood."

“是的，那是我的。就是一把普通的木斧头。”

The sprite gave the ax to Thomas and laughed

小精灵把斧头递给托马斯，笑了起来。

Still giggling she said," You are a very honest man

她还在咯咯地笑，说道：“你真是个诚实的人。

I will give you the silver and gold axes as a reward for your honesty."

为了奖励你的诚实，我会把银斧头和金斧头都给你。”

Thomas didn't know what to say, but before leaving, he remembered his manners

The next day, Thomas told his landlord what had happened at the pond

The landlord was a very greedy man, so he took an old wooden ax from the shed, went to the pond, and threw the ax into the water

He waited for the water sprite to come, and after a while she did

" Yes, it is," the landlord replied." It must have fallen in the pond."

The water sprite frowned and looked at the greedy landlord

水精灵皱起眉头，看着这个贪婪的地主。

" You are a liar. This is not your silver ax."

“你在撒谎。这不是你的银斧头。”

The landlord said," Yes, yes it..."

地主说：“是的，就是它……”

Before the landlord could finish his sentence the sprite continued," I collect people who lie

还没等地主说完，小精灵就接着说：“我专门收集撒谎的人。

It's my hobby. Do you know how to swim?"

这是我的爱好。你会游泳吗？”

旁白 neutral

The landlord knew how to swim, but he was suddenly afraid, so he lied again

地主会游泳，但他突然害怕起来，于是又撒谎了。

" No, I don't know how to swim."

“不，我不会游泳。”

旁白 neutral

The sprite smiled coldly." Thank you for lying again

小精灵冷冷一笑。“谢谢你又撒谎了。

Since you say you cannot swim, I will change you into a frog."

既然你说你不会游泳，我就把你变成一只青蛙。”

There was a blinding flash of white light, and where the landlord had stood was a large green frog

一道刺眼的白光闪过，地主刚刚站的地方变成了一只大青蛙。
