Kyle went down to the kitchen

He opened the refrigerator and found it was empty too

" Ugh," said Kyle

His mom walked in with a box

他妈妈抱着一个箱子走了进来。

Kyle heard dishes rattling inside

凯尔听到里面碗碟叮当作响。

" We'll go grocery shopping later," she said

"我们过一会儿去超市买东西，" 她说。

" Why don't you play outside for now?

"你现在先到外面玩会儿吧？

Maybe you'll make a friend."

Kyle went outside and walked down the sidewalk

He found a park

But the place was empty

但公园里空无一人。

" This stinks," he thought

“真扫兴，”他想。

" Hi," said a voice

“嗨，”一个声音说。

" Huh?" Kyle looked around, but he didn't see anybody

“嗯？”凯尔环顾四周，却一个人也没看到。

" Who said that?"

“谁在说话？”

" I did," said the voice

“是我，”那个声音说。

Kyle spun around

凯尔猛地转过身来。

The voice was coming from a tall oak tree!

声音是从一棵高高的橡树上传来的！

" A talking tree?" said Kyle

“一棵会说话的树？”凯尔说。

" That's right," said the tree

“没错，”树说。

旁白 neutral

" Want to be friends?"

“想交个朋友吗？”

Kyle scratched his head

凯尔挠了挠头。

" How can we be friends?" he asked

“我们怎么做朋友呢？”他问。

" I'm a person, and you're a tree!"

“我是人，而你是树呀！”

" Does it matter?

“那又有什么关系呢？

By the way, I like cats," said the tree." Do you?"

" Yes," said Kyle

“喜欢，”凯尔说。

" I like playing soccer," said the tree." Do you?"

“我喜欢踢足球，”树说，“你呢？”

Kyle couldn't imagine a tree playing soccer

But he answered the question because he wanted to be polite

" Yes, I love soccer," he said

" I'm in fourth grade," said the tree

" What grade are you in?"

" I'm in fourth grade too!" said Kyle

" But how can a tree go to school?"

" Climb up and find out," said the tree

“爬上来看看就知道了，”树说。

Kyle grabbed a branch and climbed up

凯尔抓住一根树枝，爬了上去。

A girl was chuckling on a branch

一个小女孩正坐在树枝上咯咯地笑着。

" Hi," she said." I'm Pearl

“嗨，”她说，“我是珀尔。

I like cats and soccer and... climbing trees."

我喜欢猫，喜欢足球，还有……爬树。”

Kyle laughed

凯尔笑了起来。

He had a new friend!

他有了一个新朋友！
