Zann realized this wormhole, too, was on the ground

Zann意识到这个虫洞也是在地面上的。

He yanked on the edge of the wormhole as hard

as he could, propelling himself upward.

He flew out and landed on his feet, but he forgot

that Perda was still shackled to him.

旁白 neutral

" Hey!" she cried." Whoa!"

“嘿！”她喊道，“哇啊！”

She crashed into Zann, and the two of them collapsed

on the ground in a tangle of arms and legs.

Zing landed on Zann's face

Zing落在Zann的脸上。

" Oof!" Zann grunted, embarrassed to realize that his elbow was in Perda's ear

“哎哟！”Zann咕哝道，尴尬地发现自己的手肘正压在Perda的耳朵上。

Perda quickly snapped her fingers." Unshackle," she said, undoing the spell

Perda迅速打了个响指。“解除束缚，”她说，解除了咒语。

She jumped to her feet and looked around." I wonder where we are?"

她跳起来四处张望。“我们这是在哪儿呢？”

Zann glanced back just in time to see the wormhole swirl shut and disappear

Zann回头一瞥，刚好看到虫洞旋转着关闭消失了。

He also realized his arm hurt

他也意识到自己的手臂疼。

" Ow," he said, noticing a scrape." I think I landed on a rock."

“嗷，”他边说边发现了一处擦伤，“我想我是摔在石头上了。”

He unshackled himself from Zing

他挣脱了与Zing的捆绑。

Then he snapped his fingers and touched the wound

on his arm to perform a simple Healing spell.

But nothing happened. The scrape still stung, and it still looked red and raw

但什么都没发生。擦伤还是火辣辣地疼，看上去又红又破。

" What's wrong?" Perda asked

“怎么了？”Perda问。

旁白 neutral

Zann rubbed his hands together to create more friction

Zann搓了搓手，想产生更多的摩擦力。

Then he tried again." My Healing spell isn't working!" he exclaimed

然后他又试了一次。“我的治疗咒语不管用了！”他喊道。

" What if we did land in that no-magic world again?"

“我们该不会真的又掉进那个没有魔法的世界了吧？”

" This doesn't look anything like that world," Perda said

“这里看起来一点都不像那个世界，”Perda说。

" It's probably not working because the vortex sapped your energy

“咒语可能没起作用，因为漩涡耗光了你的能量。

You should rest and then try again in a few minutes."

Zann nodded." I hope she's right," he thought

赞恩点了点头。“希望她说得对，”他想。

" My arm doesn't hurt that much. But I do not want

to be stuck in a world without magic!"

To distract himself, he looked around

为了分散注意力，他环顾四周。

The land was just as flat and colorless as it had appeared from the vortex

这片土地和从漩涡里看到的一样平坦、毫无色彩。

Now that he could see more, though, Zann spotted

mountains rising in the distance.

He also saw a crooked, weak-looking sapling growing very

close to where the wormhole had been.

It cast only a few jagged slivers of shade that didn't

do much to combat the heat of the blazing sun.

" Look over here." Perda had wandered a short distance away

“看这边。”珀达走开了一小段距离。

She was staring down at some limp greenish gray sprouts

她正低头盯着一些蔫蔫的灰绿色嫩芽。

" This looks like some kind of garden. See? These plants are growing in rows."

" That means there must be people nearby." Zann noticed

a shallow hole in the ground.

A crude stone shovel with a wooden handle was lying next

to it. "Look, they left one of their tools."

Perda walked over to look." Someone dug this hole recently," she said

" See? The dirt on the shovel is still a little damp

even though the air here is really dry."

Zann was impressed that she'd noticed something like that

Perda really was one of the smartest people he knew

She would make a great researcher someday, if that was

what she decided to do for a career.

" I wonder where they went," he said

Then he noticed Zing creeping toward a patch of thorny bushes

" Hey Zing, don't you dare start chasing something!

That's what got us into this mess, remember?"

He grabbed the dragon's leash

Zing opened his mouth as if to shoot flames at him

but only a little steam came out.

" Uh-oh," Zann said." Zing's magic isn't

working either. That's a bad sign."

For a second, Perda looked worried. Then her expression brightened

有那么一瞬间，Perda面露忧色。但随即，她的表情又明朗起来。

" Wait — we undid our Shackle spells after we got here, remember?

“等等——我们到了这儿之后，解开了自己的束缚咒，记得吗？

That means there's at least some magic energy

It just must be really weak. Or maybe it works differently

here than it does in Magica."

Once again Zann was impressed

Before he could respond, Zing yanked on his leash

which made Zann's arm hurt again.

" Ouch," he complained." What are you — oh!"

“哎哟，”他抱怨道，“你干嘛——哦！”

A girl stepped into view from behind the shrub Zing was watching

一个女孩从Zing一直盯着的灌木丛后面走了出来。

She was about their age, with reddish brown hair and a few freckles

她和他们年纪相仿，一头红棕色的头发，脸上有几颗雀斑。

She was dressed in a drab, simple outfit of rough-looking cloth

她穿着一身土气、简单的粗布衣裳。

" Hello," she said, her voice shaking a little

“你们好，”她说道，声音微微发颤。

" Where did you come from? One moment I was alone

and then . . ." Her voice trailed off uncertainly.

" I'm Perda, and this is Zann," Perda said." What's your name?"

“我是珀达，这位是赞恩，”珀达说，“你叫什么名字？”

" Mellis," the girl replied." But where did you come from?"

“梅莉丝，”女孩回答，“可是你们到底从哪儿来的？”

" We came through the vortex from a world called Magica," Zann said

“我们穿过漩涡，是从一个叫魔法界的地方来的，”赞恩说。

Mellis blinked in confusion." You came here from another world?"

梅利斯困惑地眨了眨眼。“你们是从另一个世界来的？”

" Yes, that's right," Perda said

“是的，没错。”珀达说。

旁白 neutral

" Oh." Mellis looked as if she didn't believe them

“哦。”梅利斯看起来并不相信他们。

旁白 neutral

But she didn't say so. Instead she said," Well

wherever you came from, welcome to Terrica."

" Terrica?" Perda looked thoughtful

“泰瑞卡？”珀达若有所思。

旁白 neutral

" I don't remember seeing that world mentioned

in any of your parents' books, Zann."

旁白 neutral

Zann shrugged." They say there are lots of worlds

that haven't been discovered yet," he said.

旁白 neutral

" I guess we just discovered one."

“我猜我们刚发现了一个。”

旁白 neutral

He felt his arm throbbing and lifted it for

a better look. Mellis noticed his scrape.

" Oh, you're hurt!" she exclaimed

“哦，你受伤了！”她喊道。

旁白 neutral

" I almost forgot." Perda stepped closer

"Our energy must be returning by now."

旁白 neutral

She rubbed her hands together and touched the sore spot on Zann's arm

她搓了搓手，碰了碰赞恩手臂上疼的地方。

旁白 neutral

Nothing happened. She tried again, rubbing her hands on her legs this time

什么也没发生。她又试了一次，这次在腿上搓了搓手。

旁白 neutral

" Heal," she said as she touched the scrape again. Then she shook her head

“治愈。”她再次触碰擦伤时说道。然后她摇了摇头。

旁白 neutral

" Still nothing — not even when I used a focusing word!"

“还是不行——连用了聚焦词都没用！”

旁白 neutral

" Let's both try." Zann and Perda rubbed their hands together

and then both of them touched Zann's arm.

旁白 neutral

But still the scrape remained, oozing a little bit of blood

但擦伤依旧在，还渗出了一点血。

旁白 neutral

Mellis looked perplexed." What are you doing?" she asked

梅利斯一脸困惑。“你们在做什么？”她问道。

旁白 neutral

Zann tried to control the panic rising within him as he turned to her

赞恩转向她，努力控制着心中升起的恐慌。

Maybe Perda was right — maybe magic worked differently here

也许珀达是对的——也许这里的魔法运作方式不同。

" Mellis," he said." How does magic work here in Terrica?"

“梅利斯，”他说，“在泰瑞卡，魔法是怎么运作的？”

Mellis blinked in confusion." Magic?" she echoed." What's that?"

梅利斯困惑地眨了眨眼。“魔法？”她重复道，“那是什么？”
