" I'm home, Uncle Bert," Ben called

" I'll be in my room, working on my lines."

But Uncle Bert didn't respond.

He checked the kitchen

The living room was empty, and so was the family room

" This is weird," Ben said, and then he smelled it — a stink coming

in through the screen door.

He floated into the backyard, trying to follow the scent

when Bones came bounding up.

" Hi, boy!" As Ben reached down to pet his dog, he got

a face full of a foul odor.

" Whoa, Bones! Did you get sprayed by a skunk monster again?"

Bones yipped happily and tried to rub up against Ben's leg

Bones lay down at Ben's feet and covered

his eyes with his paws.

Bathing Bones took longer than Ben thought it would

it was almost dinnertime.

to study his script.

Then Uncle Bert and Sid floated in with bags of groceries

have to help me."

Sid yanked on Ben's arm." Let's go."

After dinner Ben pulled out the script again

Then he got a text from his mom: " Don't forget

their tarantula's cage."

" Oh no!" Ben groaned

Another hour passed before Ben finally collapsed

on his bed, script in hand.

Uncle Bert knocked on the door and poked his head inside

" Everything okay, Ben? You looked a little pale at dinner

Ben sighed." It was great

in a school play?"

stuttering and acting like a fool.

And then being in the play with her made me so nervous

I couldn't remember a single line!"

" So what happened?" Ben asked." How'd you finally memorize your lines?"

And with that, Uncle Bert floated out of Ben's room

Ben groaned." That was the least inspiring story I've ever

heard," he thought.

Hey, Waldo. Looks like I'm going to need a potion after all
