" Cool," Ben said." And yes, you have permission to take it."

" Great!" Winnie said." Let's go!"

The three of them dashed outside — and the sky instantly flashed with weird green light

" We cast a magnet spell — it makes the compass attracted to Pedro's treasure."

Winnie held the compass in front of her as they hurried along Buzzard Place

The compass needle seemed to be pointing at the Monsterville clock tower

" Why didn't the first spell lead you right to the treasure?" Ben asked

Waldo shrugged." We don't know," he admitted

" Although we did make a few mistakes with the potion, and I still have this dumb cold."

" Plus, I'm pretty new to spell casting," Winnie said

They turned left at the clock tower, and the needle pointed them toward Swampside Lane

By now the sky had grown dark

A full moon hung over the bubbling green swamp as they raced along

" Why are you guys trying so hard to win?" he asked

I mean, you're going to use the treasure to help fix the school, no matter who wins. Right?"

Waldo nodded." Yeah..."

" So don't you think it's kind of dumb to try to prove that magic is better than detective work?" Ben went on

" I mean, what's the point of arguing about it?"

Winnie burst out laughing." It is kind of dumb," she admitted

" But it sounded fun to me — like a scavenger hunt, as Mog said."

" Yeah," Waldo added with a grin

" Besides, a wizard has to defend his magical powers

Ah-ah-ah-choo!" He sneezed loudly, and the three of them turned green

阿——嚏！”他打了个大喷嚏，三人瞬间都变成了绿色。

Winnie moaned." Not again."

温妮呻吟道：“又来。”

" Hey!" Waldo said." I know! I'll cast a spell to fix my cold."

“嘿！”沃尔多说，“有了！我施个咒语治好我的感冒。”

" No!" Winnie said sharply

“不行！”温妮厉声说。

旁白 neutral

" No more spells for now. Let's just keep searching for the treasure."

“现在别再施咒了。我们继续找宝藏吧。”

Soon the compass was pulling the three of them up Cemetery Hill

很快，指南针就拉着他们三人朝公墓山走去。

At the top they paused so that Winnie could reverse Waldo's green spell

到了山顶，他们停下脚步，好让温妮解除沃尔多的绿色咒语。

" Phew, that's better," Winnie said." I didn't like being green."

Ben was staring down at all the lights below

To the left he could see lights twinkling in People Place

他看见左边的人类广场上灯光闪烁。

To the right Monsterville was lit up too

右边的怪兽镇也亮堂堂的。

" It's a nice view from up here."

“从这儿看，景色真美。”

" My parents hike up the hill sometimes," Waldo said

“我爸妈有时会来爬山。”沃尔多说。

" Enough small talk, guys." Winnie was staring at the compass

“闲聊够啦，两位。”温妮盯着指南针。

" We're almost at the burial site." She pointed below

“我们快到埋藏地点了。”她指向下方。

" The compass is pointing down the hill, past that huge tree, and right at..."

“指南针指向山下，越过那棵大树，正对着……”

Ben's eyes went wide as he realized where, exactly, the compass was pointing." Monster Academy!"

本瞪大了眼睛，他意识到指南针正正指向哪里。“怪物学院！”

Waldo gasped." The treasure must be buried under our school!"

沃尔多倒吸一口气。“宝藏一定埋在我们学校下面！”

" Yep." Winnie took another look at the compass

“没错。”温妮又看了一眼指南针。

Sure enough, its needle pointed right at the school

果然，指针直直地指向学校。

" Could it be wrong?" Ben asked

“会不会指错了？”本问。

旁白 neutral

" I don't think so," Waldo replied

“我想不会。”沃尔多回答。

" I guess we'll find out," Winnie said

“我们很快就知道了。”温妮说。

Her voice shook." I wonder what we'll find — piles of gold?"

她的声音有些颤抖。“不知道我们会发现什么——成堆的金子吗？”

Ben remembered the huge chest he'd seen in the painting of Pedro, but he didn't say anything

本想了起来，他在佩德罗那幅画里见过的大箱子，但他什么也没说。

That clue belonged to Gaby and Mog

" Yes!" Waldo said

" We're going to find tons of gold

Maybe some other valuable stuff too, like pearls and jewelry

Pirates stole all kinds of loot."

" Let's go," Ben said eagerly

The three of them rushed down the hill and wound through the streets toward Monster Academy

三人冲下山坡，穿过街道，往怪物学院赶去。

Even though school had ended hours ago, a few lights were on inside the school building

尽管放学已经好几个小时了，教学楼里还亮着几盏灯。

" Someone's working late," Ben said

“有人在加班。”本说。

" Maybe Mr. Bog is still mopping up all those puddles."

“说不定博格先生还在擦那些水洼呢。”

" Or trying to fix the heat again," Winnie said

“要么就是在修暖气。”温妮说。

Just then Ben spotted some figures near the big tree close to the front of the building

就在这时，本看到教学楼前的大树旁有几个人影。

One of the figures was very tall

其中有个人影非常高。

" It's Gaby and Mog!" he said

“是加比和莫格！”他说。

" Looks like they tracked the treasure here too!"

“看来他们也追着宝藏到这里了！”
