The next morning Ben floated into the kitchen

" You slept late today," Dad said." Doing okay?"

Ben shuddered." I had a nightmare that the bruised blue roses

attacked Victoria during the wedding ceremony."

" Good thing it was only a dream," Mom said

"好在只是个梦，" 妈妈说。

" You should have some breakfast before you leave for the garden."

"你应该吃点早餐再去花园。"

Ben hung his head." What's the point of working on the garden?

本垂下了头。"打理花园还有什么意义？

There's no singer for the wedding, no one to officiate

and the garden is a mess. It's a disaster!"

" Not anymore!" Uncle Bert burst into the kitchen with a wide grin

"不再是了！" 伯特叔叔咧嘴笑着冲进厨房。

" I have the answer to our problems!"

"我有办法解决我们的问题！"

Mom looked as surprised by Bert's happy expression as Ben was

"What is it?" she asked.

" I figured it out when I went to buy gecko food to bring

to Mrs. Hubbletree," Uncle Bert said.

" The pet shop owner was replacing the shop window

It had a large crack in it."

" I don't understand," Ben said

"我不明白，" 本说。

" Do you remember when Mrs. Hubbletree screamed?" Uncle Bert asked

"你还记得哈伯特里太太尖叫的时候吗？" 伯特叔叔问。

" How could I forget?" Ben covered his ears." My head's still ringing."

"怎么可能忘？" 本捂住耳朵，"现在我的耳朵还在嗡嗡响。"

" Exactly!" Uncle Bert said." She screamed so high the glass cracked

"这就对了！" 伯特叔叔说，"她的尖叫声太高了，把玻璃都震裂了。"

The only way to do that is to hit a high C note."

要办到这点，唯一的办法是唱到高音C。"

" Uh... okay." Ben was even more confused now

"呃……好吧。" 本现在更糊涂了。

" Only a trained opera singer can hit a high C like that." Uncle Bert laughed

"只有受过训练的歌剧演员才能唱出那样的高音C。" 伯特叔叔笑了。

" So, I called Mrs. Hubbletree and asked if she would do us

the honor of singing at the wedding."

" Oh!" Ben was finally getting it

“哦！”本终于明白了。

" And...?" Mom asked." What did she say?"

“然后……？”妈妈问。“她说什么了？”

" She said she and Mayor Hubbletree would both love

to be a part of the wedding!" Uncle Bert said.

" Well, after I told her we'd seat her next to Tom Ooze."

" That's great!" Mom said

" I'm so relieved." Uncle Bert wiped his brow

" And now I'm off to the airport to pick up Victoria. See you later!"

Cheered up by the news, Ben decided to set out for the garden

Then Winnie called.

" Where are you?" she asked

“你在哪儿？”她问。

" You need to get to the garden as fast as you can

There's something you need to see!"

When Ben arrived at Monster Academy, Winnie was

waiting for him out front.

" What's going on?" Ben asked as they hurried around back to the garden

“出什么事了？”他们匆匆绕到后面的花园时，本问道。

" Did the vines grow back?"

“是藤蔓又长回来了吗？”

旁白 neutral

" No, they're looking great."

“不，它们看起来好极了。”

" If this is about the roses, I already know they're ruined," Ben said

“如果是关于玫瑰的事，我已经知道它们毁了。”本说。

" The roses are fine," Winnie said

“玫瑰没事。”温妮说。

" Waldo made more fertilizer and sprinkled it on

The roses are already beginning to bud."

" Then what is it?" Ben asked

" That!" Winnie pointed to the field of black-and-orange flowers

“那个！”温妮指向那片黑橙相间的花田。

For some reason, Gaby and Jen were tugging on the plants

不知为何，嘉比和珍正在拽那些植物。

Ben raced over." What are you doing?"

本冲了过去。“你们在干什么？”

Gaby grunted." Something... is... trying... to pull them down!"

嘉比哼了一声。“有东西……在……拼命……往下拽它们！”

" And it's strong!" Jen added

“而且力气很大！”珍补充道。

Ben grabbed hold of Jen and helped her tug

本抓住珍，帮她一起拉。

Gaby and Jen were right

Whatever was pulling on the flowers was strong — super strong!

Ben and Jen held on tight, and finally their underground enemy let go

" What do you think is down there?" Ben asked

" We're not sure," Winnie said." But come and look at this."

Winnie showed Ben the archway

温妮带本去看了那座拱门。

It was standing off-balance, one leg shorter than the others

拱门歪歪斜斜地立着，有一条腿比其他几条都短。

" How did this happen?" Ben cried

“这是怎么回事？”本叫道。

" We're not sure," Winnie said." But look closer."

Ben examined the wood. It was covered in teeth marks

本仔细检查了木头，上面布满了牙齿印。

Ben was shocked." Something chewed right through the wood!"

本大吃一惊，“有东西直接把木头啃穿了！”

" Do you know what this means?" Winnie asked

“你知道这意味着什么吗？”温妮问。

Ben nodded." There's something around here with big teeth."

本点点头，“这附近有个长着大牙的家伙。”

" It means there's an explanation for all the problems

we've had," Winnie said.

旁白 neutral

" Something is causing all the trouble."

“有个东西在制造这一切麻烦。”

旁白 neutral

" But what is it?" Ben asked

“可那是什么呢？”本问。

旁白 neutral

" Ben, come look at these!" Mog shouted from the piranha pond

“本，快来看这些！”莫格在水虎鱼池塘边喊道。

Ben and the others raced over to see what Mog was staring at — large

flipper-like footprints that circled the pond.

旁白 neutral

" What kind of creature has prints like that?" Ben wondered

“什么样的生物会有这样的脚印？”本纳闷道。

" Something that likes to dig tunnels," Mog said, pointing

to several deep holes nearby.

旁白 neutral

" Okay, everybody, what kind of creature has sharp teeth, flipper-like feet

digs holes, and likes to eat flowers?" Ben asked.

But before anyone could reply, Gaby let out a shout from

the grassy field near the woods.

旁白 neutral

" Everyone, come here, quick!"

“大家快来，快！”

旁白 neutral

Ben didn't see anything at first, just a mud-covered lump

in the middle of the field.

旁白 neutral

But then that lump started running really fast toward the trees

但接着，那团东西开始飞快地朝树林跑去。

" It's a garden gremlin!" Jen exclaimed

“是花园小精灵！”珍惊呼道。

旁白 neutral

" Quick," Ben cried as he raced after the gremlin." We have to catch him!"

“快，”本一边追着精灵一边喊，“我们得抓住他！”

Ben and his friends took off

本和他的朋友们追了上去。

But the garden critter was much too fast

但那只花园小怪物跑得太快了。

旁白 neutral

Not even Gaby, running as fast as she could on her long giant legs

could catch him before he disappeared into the woods.
