Its swirling waters were known to swallow up all kinds of creatures

They'd heard scary stories about curious mermaids who swam too close to Gooba and never returned home

" Grandmother told me about the home of the Sea Witch when I was small,"

the Little Mermaid thought as she swam along

" But it can't be that awful."

" Stop, Princess," a small fish suddenly cried out

“停下，公主，”一条小鱼突然喊道。

" Do not go to that terrible place."

“别去那个可怕的地方。”

" Don't worry, little fish," said the Little Mermaid

“别担心，小鱼，”小美人鱼说。

Then she thought to herself," The Sea Witch will grant my wish

然后她心想："海巫婆会实现我的愿望。

I just know she will."

The lovesick mermaid swam on and entered the gloomy realm of the Sea Witch

这位害了相思病的美人鱼继续向前游，进入了海巫婆阴森的地盘。

" This place is as ugly as the Sea Kingdom is beautiful," she said to herself

"这地方有多丑，海洋王国就有多美，"她自言自语道。

Instead of gleaming, white sand, the sea floor here was dark and slimy

这里的海底没有闪闪发亮的白沙，而是又黑又黏滑。

Mud seeped from every hole and every crack

泥浆从每个洞和每条裂缝里渗出来。

" Where are the sea flowers?" wondered the Little Mermaid

"海里的花儿都去哪儿了？"小美人鱼感到纳闷。

" Where is the seaweed?"

"海草都去哪儿了？"

" Get out of Gooba, Princess," hissed a snake from the mouth of a cave

"滚出古巴，公主，"一条蛇从一个洞口嘶嘶地说道。

" Who's that?" asked the frightened mermaid

"那是谁？"受惊的美人鱼问道。

The snake vanished into the darkness of the cave

蛇消失在洞穴的黑暗中。

All of a sudden, the Little Mermaid saw twirling cones of water, twisting this way and that

突然，小美人鱼看到一些旋转的水锥，扭来扭去。

The cones were swallowing up everything within reach

这些水锥吞噬着周围能触及的一切。

Anything that became caught in the churning water was sucked down into the mud

任何被卷入翻滚水流的东西，都会被吸进泥里。

" I am not afraid," she said to herself

“我不怕，”她对自己说。

" My strong tail can take me around the danger easily."

“我强壮的尾巴能让我轻松绕过危险。”

And she swam around each cone of whirling water in her path

Next she came to a muddy forest of thin trees with bony branches

接着，她来到一片泥泞的森林，长着光秃秃的细树，树枝嶙峋。

Each long branch had twigs that moved like fingers, grabbing anything nearby

每根长枝上的小树枝都像手指一样动来动去，抓取附近的东西。

The trees' sticky fingers held fish bones and pieces of wood from sunken ships

树木黏糊糊的手指里抓着鱼骨头和沉船的木头碎片。

The skeletons of drowned sailors hung from the tree branches

溺水水手的骨架挂在树枝上。

" Oh dear," thought the Little Mermaid," the trees never let go of their victims!"

“哦，天哪，”小美人鱼心想，“这些树从不放过它们的猎物！”

Terrified, she stopped

她吓坏了，停了下来。

" I don't think I can do this!" she cried

Her little heart thumped with fear and she almost turned back

But then she remembered her Prince

" For the sake of my love," she thought," I must go on."

Before she entered the forest, the mermaid braided her flowing hair close to her head

在进入森林之前，美人鱼把她飘散的长发编起来，紧紧地盘在头上。

Then she darted through the water like a nimble fish

The slimy branches stretched out their fingers to seize her

But she was too fast

They could not catch her

Finally she reached a clearing in the sea forest

Fat worms stood guard and long snakes slithered about

The Little Mermaid saw a shack built of bones

小美人鱼看到一座用骨头搭成的棚屋。

The Sea Witch was sitting in front, picking her teeth with a seashell

海巫婆正坐在前面，用贝壳剔牙。

With her tangled hair and beady eyes, she looked horrifying

她头发纠缠，眼睛小而亮，看起来十分可怕。

At her feet sat a dozen pet frogs, croaking at her

她的脚边趴着十几只宠物青蛙，呱呱地朝她叫。

" Welcome, Little Mermaid

“欢迎，小美人鱼。

I was expecting you," said the Sea Witch

我一直在等你，”海巫婆说。

" And I know why you are here

“而且我知道你为什么来这里。

旁白 neutral

You want to be a human

你想成为一个人类。

旁白 neutral

What a very foolish idea!"

真是愚蠢至极的想法！”

Then the Sea Witch began to laugh

然后海巫婆大笑起来。
