When the other students went to bed that night, Wukong stayed awake

那天夜里，其他学生都去睡觉了，悟空却独自清醒着。

At 3 o'clock in the morning, he crept quietly through the dark temple

凌晨三点，他悄悄穿过黑暗的寺院。

He entered Subodhi's room

他走进了菩提祖师的房间。

Wukong, what are you doing here? asked the sage

"悟空，你来这里做什么？"祖师问道。

I understood your secret message, said the monkey

"我明白了您的暗语，"猴子说。

You hit me on the head three times

"您敲了我的头三下。"

旁白 neutral

That meant you wanted me to visit you at three o'clock

"那意思是让我三更时分来拜见您。"

Now, will you teach me how to live forever?

"现在，您愿意教我长生不老之法吗？"

Subodhi smiled

菩提祖师微微一笑。

I knew you were a worthy student

"我就知道你是可造之材。"

Come closer

"过来。"

Subodhi whispered into Wukong's ear

菩提祖师凑近悟空的耳边低声细语。

The sage whispered prayers as well as secret formulas about the universe and nature

祖师低声传授了关于天地宇宙的祷文与秘术。

As the monkey listened to his teacher's words, powerful light filled the room

猴子聆听师父话语之时，强烈的光芒充满了整个房间。

Now Wukong knew how to live forever

悟空从此便知晓了长生不老之道。

For the next few years, Wukong meditated and practiced the secret formulas

此后数年，悟空日夜打坐修炼那些秘术。

While the other students slept at night, Wukong stayed up

夜里其他学生入睡之时，悟空依然苦修不辍。

Soon his mind and body were powerful and he could change shape or size

不久，他的身心都变得无比强大，能够随意变换形态与大小。

He could turn into other animals and soar through the sky on clouds

他能化身为各种动物，也能腾云驾雾翱翔天际。

One day, all the students were sitting outside

一日，众学生齐聚院外席地而坐。

Wukong, said one student

"悟空，"一名学生说道。

旁白 neutral

You have been busy lately

"你最近很忙啊。"

旁白 neutral

It's true, said another student

"确实，"另一名学生说。

旁白 neutral

What have you been doing?

"你都在做什么？"

旁白 neutral

I've been meditating and practicing secret formulas, said Wukong

"我一直在打坐，修炼秘术，"悟空说。

Secret formulas, said the first student

"秘术？"第一个学生说道。

旁白 neutral

Everyone looked very interested

众人顿时兴趣大增。

They leaned in closer to Wukong

大家纷纷凑近悟空。

Yes, said the monkey

"是的，"猴子说。

旁白 neutral

Our master taught them to me

"是我们师父传授给我的。"

旁白 neutral

He did, said a student

"真的吗？"一名学生说。

旁白 neutral

You must be special

"你一定很特别。"

旁白 neutral

He doesn't tell everyone those formulas

"那些秘术他可不是人人都教的。"

旁白 neutral

What did he teach you?

"他教了你什么？"

旁白 neutral

Wukong smiled

悟空笑了笑。

旁白 neutral

He taught me how to live forever

"他教了我长生不老之法。"

旁白 neutral

He also taught me how to change into other things

"他还教了我如何变化成其他事物。"

旁白 neutral

Show us what you can do, said the student

"给我们展示一下吧，"那名学生说。

Wukong stood up

悟空站了起来。

He muttered a quick spell and made a sign with his hands

他默念了一句口诀，双手掐了个法诀。

Suddenly, zap!

忽然，嗖的一声！

The monkey was gone

猴子不见了。

An enormous pine tree stood in his place

原地立起了一棵参天大松树。

Wukong's voice came from the tree

悟空的声音从树中传来。

What do you think?

"你们觉得怎么样？"

The students clapped and cheered

学生们鼓掌欢呼。

That's amazing, said one

"太神奇了！"一人说道。

旁白 neutral

The monkey is truly powerful, said another

"这猴子真是神通广大，"另一人说。

The noise disturbed Subodhi

喧闹声惊动了菩提祖师。

He ran outside and saw the enormous pine tree

他跑到院外，看见那棵参天大松树。

What's going on out here? he shouted

"这里发生了什么事？"他大喝一声。

旁白 neutral

Everyone stopped cheering

众人立刻停止了欢呼。

Wukong quickly turned back into himself

悟空迅速变回了原形。

Subodhi's eyes flashed with anger

菩提祖师眼中怒火迸射。

Everyone but Wukong, go inside! he yelled

"除了悟空，都给我进去！"他厉声喝道。

Subodhi waited for the other students to leave

菩提祖师等其他学生离开之后。

旁白 neutral

I taught you the secret formula so you could live forever, said the sage

"我把秘术传授给你，是为了让你长生不老，"祖师说道。

Not so you could show off

"不是让你在人前卖弄的。"

旁白 neutral

I'm sorry, said Wukong

"弟子知错了，"悟空说。

旁白 neutral

Subodhi kept talking

菩提祖师继续说道。

旁白 neutral

Now all of the students have seen what you can do

"如今所有学生都看见你施展的本领了。"

旁白 neutral

They will want to know how to do it too

"他们也会想学的。"

旁白 neutral

If you don't tell them, they might harm you

"若是你不肯教他们，他们可能会加害于你。"

旁白 neutral

It's not safe for you to stay here anymore

"你留在这里已不再安全。"

旁白 neutral

You must go

"你必须离开。"

旁白 neutral

Wukong started to cry

悟空流下了眼泪。

But master, where will I go?

"但是师父，我去哪里呢？"

旁白 neutral

Go back home, said Subodhi

"回老家去，"菩提祖师说。

旁白 neutral

But you taught me so many things, said the monkey

"可是您教了我这么多，"猴子说。

旁白 neutral

I must repay you first

"我应当先报答您的恩情。"

旁白 neutral

You don't need to repay me, said Subodhi

"不必报答我，"菩提祖师说。

旁白 neutral

Just try to stay out of trouble

"只要尽量不要惹是生非就好。"

The sage looked at Wukong for a moment

祖师凝视了悟空片刻。

旁白 neutral

Then he said, I can see that you will do evil things someday

随后说道："我看得出来，你日后必定会做出一些恶事。"

Don't tell anyone you are my student

"不要告诉任何人你是我的徒弟。"

旁白 neutral

Now go

"去吧。"

旁白 neutral

Wukong hung his head

悟空低下了头。

Goodbye, master

"师父，再见。"

He leaped onto a cloud and left

他纵身跃上云头，飞身离去。

After a short journey, Wukong arrived at the Fruit and Flower Mountain

经过短暂的旅程，悟空来到了花果山。

I have returned! he called

"我回来了！"他高声呼唤。

The gibbon ran to him

一只长臂猿跑来迎接他。

Your Majesty, something terrible has happened
