He walked for many years, visiting towns and meeting people

他走了很多年，走过许多城镇，见过许多人。

But he didn't find a sage anywhere

Eventually, he came to mountains covered in thick forest

最后，他来到了一片被茂密森林覆盖的山脉。

He headed up a steep mountain trail and soon heard chopping

他沿着一条陡峭的山路往上走，很快听到了砍柴的声音。

A woodcutter was chopping firewood

Are there any sages in these mountains?

The woodcutter dropped his axe

And you're talking

Yes, I am, said Monkey

And I want to live forever

Do you know where I can find a sage?

你知道哪里能找到仙人吗？

The woodcutter scratched his head

樵夫挠了挠头。

Well, yes, he said

嗯，知道，他说。

A sage named Subodhi lives on this mountain

这座山上住着一位叫须菩提的仙人。

He is very wise

他非常有智慧。

Monkey was excited

猴王兴奋极了。

Where can I find him?

我去哪里能找到他？

Just follow this trail, and you will come to his home, said the woodcutter

沿着这条路一直走，就能到他住的地方，樵夫说。

Thank you, said Monkey

谢谢，猴王说。

He waved goodbye to the woodcutter and ran up the trail

他向樵夫挥手告别，沿着山路跑了上去。

Soon he saw a temple built into the side of the mountain

很快他看到一座依山而建的庙宇。

Subodhi was sitting with his students in the main room of his temple

须菩提正和弟子们坐在庙里的大殿中。

He looked at his oldest student

他看了看他最年长的弟子。

Please go to the door, said Subodhi

去门口看看，须菩提说。

A new student is about to arrive

有一个新弟子马上就要到了。

让他进来。

The student looked confused

那个弟子一脸困惑。

Okay, master, he said

好的，师父，他说。

The student got up and went to the door of the temple

弟子起身走到庙门口。

He looked outside

他朝外面看了看。

Hello, called Monkey

你好，猴王喊道。

I'm here to see Subodhi

我来拜见须菩提。

A moment later, Monkey was standing in front of the sage

片刻之后，猴王站在了仙人面前。

I want to be your student, said Monkey

我想拜您为师，猴王说。

旁白 neutral

But you're just a monkey, said Subodhi

可你只是一只猴子，须菩提说。

How can you be my student?

你怎么能做我的弟子呢？

旁白 neutral

Monkey laughed

猴王笑了。

旁白 neutral

I might be a monkey, but I can walk and talk and do many other things

我虽然是只猴子，但我能走路、说话，还能做很多别的事。

I traveled almost 13 years to get here

我花了差不多十三年才到这里。

旁白 neutral

I'm sure I can be your student

我一定能做您的弟子。

旁白 neutral

Subodhi stared at Monkey for a moment

须菩提盯着猴王看了一会儿。

Who are your parents? he asked

你的父母是谁？他问。

旁白 neutral

Monkey scratched his head

猴王挠了挠头。

旁白 neutral

I don't have parents, he said

我没有父母，他说。

旁白 neutral

I was born from a rock

我是从石头里蹦出来的。

Interesting, said Subodhi

有意思，须菩提说。

旁白 neutral

You were probably created by heaven and earth

你大概是天地所生。

旁白 neutral

You may be my student

你可以做我的弟子。

旁白 neutral

You need a name

你需要一个名字。

He thought for a moment

他想了想。

I will call you Sun Wukong

我就叫你孙悟空吧。

For the next seven years, Sun Wukong lived in Subodhi's temple

接下来的七年，孙悟空住在须菩提的庙里。

The monkey spent his days meditating, listening to his teacher's lessons, and doing chores

猴子每天打坐、听师父讲课、做杂务。

One day, while Subodhi was giving a lesson, Wukong started to dance

有一天，须菩提讲课的时候，悟空忍不住手舞足蹈起来。

Subodhi stood up

须菩提站了起来。

How dare you dance while I'm teaching, he shouted

我讲课的时候你竟敢跳舞！他喝道。

I'm sorry, said Wukong, but I was so happy I needed to dance

对不起，悟空说，可是我太高兴了，忍不住就跳起来了。

Subodhi calmed down

须菩提平静下来。

旁白 neutral

You're happy?

你高兴？

旁白 neutral

Yes, said the monkey

是的，猴子说。

旁白 neutral

I love learning from you

我太喜欢跟您学东西了。

旁白 neutral

Wukong, you have been here a long time

悟空，你来这里已经很久了。

旁白 neutral

What would you like to learn from me? asked Subodhi

你想跟我学什么？须菩提问。

旁白 neutral

Wukong shrugged

悟空耸了耸肩。

旁白 neutral

I don't know

我不知道。

旁白 neutral

You tell me what I should learn

您说我该学什么吧。

旁白 neutral

Well, said Subodhi, I can teach you how to tell the future

嗯，须菩提说，我可以教你占卜未来。

旁白 neutral

Would you like that?

你想学吗？

旁白 neutral

Maybe, said Wukong

也许吧，悟空说。

旁白 neutral

Will it make me live forever?

学了能长生不老吗？

旁白 neutral

Of course not, said Subodhi

当然不能，须菩提说。

旁白 neutral

Then forget it, said Wukong

那算了，悟空说。

旁白 neutral

Teach me something else

教我点别的吧。

旁白 neutral

How about some magic breathing exercises?

学吐纳功法怎么样？

旁白 neutral

Will they make me live forever? asked Wukong

能长生不老吗？悟空问。

旁白 neutral

No, said Subodhi, frowning

不能，须菩提皱着眉说。

旁白 neutral

Then I'm not interested, said Wukong

那我不感兴趣，悟空说。

旁白 neutral

Subodhi became angry

须菩提生气了。

旁白 neutral

He stood up and knocked Wukong on the head three times

他站起来，在悟空头上敲了三下。

Then he left the room

然后转身离开了。

Wukong, said another student, you were very rude to master

悟空，另一个弟子说，你对师父太无礼了。

The other students all agreed

其他弟子都纷纷附和。

旁白 neutral

Wukong, however, smiled

悟空却笑了。

旁白 neutral

None of the other students knew it, but Subodhi had given him a secret message

其他弟子都不知道，须菩提其实给了他一个暗号。
