" Twenty-three, twenty-four," counted Aladdin

"二十三，二十四，" 阿拉丁数着。

He felt for the next step with his foot

他用脚摸索着下一级台阶。

" Twenty-five." The stairway was dark

"二十五。" 楼梯间一片漆黑。

" I must be careful," he said softly to himself

"我必须小心，" 他轻声对自己说。

" Thirty." Soon Aladdin saw something below in the darkness

"三十。" 很快，阿拉丁看见下方黑暗中有个东西。

" A light," he said as he slowly stepped down." Forty-two."

"有光，" 他一边慢慢往下走一边说。"四十二。"

The light was getting brighter

光线越来越亮了。

" Forty-eight, forty-nine." He was almost there!

"四十八，四十九。" 他快到了！

旁白 neutral

" Fifty!" Aladdin slipped through a narrow doorway and looked around

"五十！" 阿拉丁挤过一道窄门，环顾四周。

" It's the golden chamber!" he cried

"是金色的房间！" 他喊了起来。

And there stood the four golden jars, just as Magrib had said

只见四个金罐就立在那里，正如马格里布所说。

" Don't touch anything," Aladdin reminded himself

“什么也别碰。”阿拉丁提醒自己。

Just then a light wind tickled his face

就在这时，一阵微风轻拂他的脸庞。

" What's that?" he wondered

“那是什么？”他感到奇怪。

A stronger wind sent the end of his sash toward a golden jar

一阵更强的风把他的衣带尾端吹向一个金罐。

" Hey!" said Aladdin, pulling his sash back

“嘿！”阿拉丁说着，把衣带拉了回来。

" I wonder if there's a spirit in here," he whispered

“不知道这里头是不是有精灵。”他低声说。

Then Aladdin's cap blew off

接着，阿拉丁的帽子被吹掉了。

" Stop!" he called to no one as he jumped to catch it

“停下！”他边喊边跳起来去抓帽子，但没人回应。

He slid across the floor and almost hit a golden jar

他滑过地板，差点撞上一个金罐。

旁白 neutral

Aladdin gulped." That was close!"

阿拉丁咽了口唾沫。“刚才好险！”

旁白 neutral

Holding his cap, he ran to a large door just ahead of him

他按住帽子，朝前方一扇大门跑去。

" My name is Aladdin!" he shouted

“我叫阿拉丁！”他喊道。

旁白 neutral

" I command you to open!"

“我命令你打开！”

旁白 neutral

The door swung open, and Aladdin stepped into a beautiful garden

门一下子打开了，阿拉丁走进了一座美丽的花园。

The air smelled like sweet flowers and ripe fruit

空气里飘着甜美的花香和熟透的水果味。

He looked up

他抬头一看。

" Oranges!" he said

“橙子！”他说。

旁白 neutral

" Lemons and limes!

“柠檬和青柠！

旁白 neutral

Pears and plums!"

梨子和李子！”

Aladdin was getting hungry

阿拉丁开始饿了。

He wished he could eat one of the plums

他希望能吃一颗李子。

Then his face lit up

这时他脸上露出了喜色。

" Uncle said I can pick all the fruit I want when I have the lamp," he thought

“叔叔说过，等我拿到神灯，就可以随便摘果子。”他想。

The garden path was right under his feet

花园的小路就在他脚下。

" One, two, three," he said, counting his steps as he walked between the trees

“一、二、三，”他一边在树木间走，一边数着步子。

Exactly one hundred steps later, Aladdin arrived at the ladder

恰好一百步后，阿拉丁来到了梯子前。

He looked up

他抬头望去。

The top was hidden high in the treetops

梯子的顶端隐没在高高的树梢中。

Slowly, Aladdin climbed

阿拉丁慢慢地爬了上去。

When he got to the top, the hole in the wall was in shadow

当他爬到顶时，墙上的洞口处于阴影中。

But Aladdin could see the lamp hanging from a chain

但阿拉丁能看到挂在链子上的那盏灯。

He reached in, took it, and held it in his hands

他伸手进去，取下灯，捧在手中。

" It's just a dirty, old brass lamp," he said, shaking his head

“这不过是一盏脏兮兮的旧铜灯，”他摇着头说。

" I don't want to mess up my jacket."

“我可不想弄脏我的外套。”

So Aladdin wrapped the lamp in his sash and tucked it in his back pocket

于是阿拉丁用腰带把灯裹好，塞进后兜里。

Then he climbed back down the ladder

然后他顺着梯子爬了下去。

" Now," he said," I'll get something to eat."

“现在，”他说，“我要找点东西吃。”

But when Aladdin stepped to the ground, he couldn't believe what he saw

但当阿拉丁踏上地面时，他简直不敢相信眼前所见。

The oranges, lemons, and limes were gone

橙子、柠檬和青柠都不见了。

The pears and plums were gone too

Instead, the fruit trees were covered with sparkling jewels

" The fruit has turned to glass!" said Aladdin

He picked a bright-red jewel off a tree

" I can't eat this," he said with a shrug

“这又不能吃，”他耸耸肩说。

" But it's pretty

“但挺好看的。

旁白 neutral

I'll pick the glass fruit and take it to Mother."

我要摘些玻璃果子带给妈妈。”

Aladdin was young, and he had always been poor

阿拉丁年纪小，又一向很穷。

He didn't know these were precious gems — emeralds, diamonds, and rubies

他不知道这些都是珍贵的宝石——祖母绿、钻石和红宝石。

They weren't glass at all

它们根本就不是玻璃。

He began stuffing the jewels into the pockets of his jacket and pants until they bulged

他开始把珠宝往外套和裤子口袋里猛塞，直到口袋鼓得老高。

" Now, I must return to my uncle," he told himself

He hurried through the golden chamber and started up the steps toward Magrib

他匆匆穿过金室，开始沿着台阶往上朝马格里布走去。

Aladdin's load was so heavy that he could barely climb the stone stairway

阿拉丁带的东西太重了，他几乎爬不动石阶。

And when he had almost reached the top, he could not get up the last step, which was taller than the others

快爬到顶时，他上不去最后一级台阶，那级比其他都高。

" Uncle," he called out." I'm back! Help me!"

“叔叔！”他喊道，“我回来了！帮帮我！”
