Kaycee pulled the tough skin off a steamed taro as they started

to prepare the poi.

" It's mashed taro mixed with water," Grandma explained

to welcome Kaycee and her mother.

The sound of drums filled the night and guests hula danced

in 1879," he explained.

" The Hawaiians named it ukulele, which means ' jumping flea,' because of

the way the musician's fingers jumped across the strings."

" Traditional hula only used drums," Auntie said
