Mary held the seeds, while Dickon loosened the earth

" You're just as nice as Martha said you were," she said, smiling at him

" Only five people!" Dickon laughed so hard he had to put his hand over his mouth to stifle the sound

He nodded toward the bird, who was perched on a tree nearby

Just then the big clock in the courtyard struck Mary's lunch hour
