" Help!" Gliss shrieked. The wind had knocked her down and was whipping her hair over her face

“救命！”格丽丝尖叫着。风把她吹倒了，她的头发被吹得盖住了脸。

She was now struggling to hang onto the edge of the chasm

她正拼命抓着深渊的边缘。

" Hold on!" Darb lunged toward her, but he ended up almost falling over the edge himself

Zing flew overhead, whistling with alarm. A gust of wind grabbed the dragon, tossing him end over end

" To me!" Wyssa shouted

“到我这儿来！”薇莎喊道。

Suddenly Zann felt himself being grabbed by magical energy

突然，赞感自己被一股魔法能量抓住了。

It yanked him backward, away from the terrifying drop-off

它把他猛地向后拉，远离了那可怕的悬崖边缘。

Soon the entire group was safely out of the wind's reach

很快，整群人安全地脱离了狂风的范围。

" Wow, that was close!" Perda exclaimed

“哇，刚才太险了！”珀达喊道。

Venna nodded." No wonder Prince Doni warned us that the Gray Gorge was very dangerous."

文娜点了点头。“难怪多尼王子警告过我们，灰色峡谷非常危险。”

Darb stared up at the stone tower." That looks like Morb's kind of place."

达布抬头凝视着石塔。“那看起来像是莫布会待的地方。”

" Yeah," Zann agreed." And my parents are in there!"

“是啊，”赞恩附和道。“而且我的父母就在那里面！”

His heart pounded at the thought that they might be so close

After all this time, was he finally going to be with them again?

" How are we going to get in there?" Gliss wondered

" Good question," Zann muttered. The tower was perched halfway across a narrow, ancient-looking stone bridge spanning the Gray Gorge

“问得好，”赞恩低声说。那座塔坐落在横跨灰色峡谷的一座狭窄古朴石桥的半中间。

" Prince Doni said Morb built this place," Perda said

“多尼王子说这地方是莫布建的，”佩达说。

" It must have taken a lot of magic to do that, especially in a spot like this."

“那一定用了很多魔法，尤其是在这种地方。”

" Indeed." Wyssa sounded grim." It seems he must have figured out a new way to steal magic. Lots of magic."

“确实。”薇莎语气沉重。“看来他一定是找到了窃取魔法的新方法。大量的魔法。”

Zann studied the tower." The wind will make it hard to cross the bridge without falling into the gorge," he said

" But otherwise, it doesn't look that bad

但除此之外，看起来没那么糟糕。

The gate is small enough to step over."

He pointed to a short gate blocking the entrance to the bridge

他指了指桥入口处一道低矮的门。

" I suppose it's only meant to keep Roodians out," Venna said

" Yeah. Or keep them in," Gliss added

" I doubt they're thrilled to be Morb's servants."

" So what are we waiting for?" Perda took a step toward the bridge

Wyssa narrowed her eyes." It seems odd that there's no sentry."

薇莎眯起眼睛。“没有哨兵，这看起来有点怪。”

" Yes, it does," Venna said." I'm sure Morb must have some sort of Shield spell on the place."

薇娜说：“是啊，确实怪。我敢肯定莫布在这儿施了某种护盾咒。”

" There's only one way to find out. Come on!"

“想知道只有一种办法。来吧！”

Zann hurried toward the bridge. Bracing himself against the gusty wind, he stepped over the gate. Perda was right behind him

扎恩匆匆朝桥走去。他顶着一阵阵狂风，跨过了那道矮门。珀达紧跟在他身后。

" Wait," Wyssa called from the other side of the gate. She pointed past Zann." What's that?"

“等等，”薇莎在门的另一侧喊道。她指向扎恩身后。“那是什么？”

Zann peered through the fog. Something was sitting on the bridge just ahead. It was small and fluffy

扎恩透过雾气仔细看去。有个东西正蹲在前方的桥上。它小小的，毛茸茸的。

" Oh!" Zann exclaimed." It must be the missing mibbit!"

“哦！”扎恩喊道。“一定是那只走失的米比特！”

" Aw, it's cute." Perda smiled and stepped forward

“啊，它好可爱。”珀达微笑着向前走去。

旁白 neutral

" Wait," Zann said." It looks kind of tense."

“等等，”扎恩说。“它看起来很紧张。”

旁白 neutral

" Here, mibbit, mibbit!" Perda cooed. She grabbed for the creature. It squawked and leaped back

“来，米比特，米比特！”珀达轻声逗弄着。她伸手去抓那小生物。它尖叫一声，向后跳开。

" Careful, don't panic it or — " Zann gasped as a shock wave of magic energy hit him. He saw Perda collapse to her knees

“小心，别吓到它，否则——”扎恩倒吸一口气，一股魔法能量的冲击波击中了他。他看见珀达瘫软跪倒在地。

The mibbit was sending out confusing energy waves, just like Vee had described!

Zann had never felt anything like it before

He couldn't move or think clearly. Unlike with the scatter beast attack, though, there was no pain

Still, he felt completely helpless. What if Morb looked out a window and spotted him and Perda on the bridge?

He heard moans from behind him. With great effort he turned his head far enough to see the others

Venna was clinging to a tree, gasping for breath

Gliss was on the ground, helpless — and sliding toward he dizzying drop-off! Zing wasn't far behind her

Zann wanted to save them. But he still couldn't move

In fact, he realized he and Perda were dangerously close to the edge too

He looked for Wyssa, hoping she could help them

But she looked just as helpless as the others

Then he saw movement near the gate

It was Darb! He was jumping over the small gate

Dodging Zann and Perda, Darb hurried over to the mibbit

" Easy, little fellow," Darb said soothingly

He gently picked up the mibbit and stroked its ears, just as Vee had taught them

A moment later the energy waves were gone

" Whoa!" Perda gasped, sitting up and moving herself away from the drop-off

Zann did the same." Thanks, Darb," he said

" But why didn't the mibbit's magic affect you?"

Darb shrugged, cuddling the mibbit. The fluffy creature looked happy and relaxed now

" Maybe it's because I'm a Void," he said

" I don't have any magic for the mibbit to affect."

Wyssa nodded." I think you must be right, boy."

Zing flew toward Darb. He circled him, sniffing at the mibbit curiously

" Down, boy," Zann told his dragon." That mibbit is not a snack!"

“停下，小家伙，”扎恩对他的龙说道。“那只毛球兽可不是点心！”

Venna brushed the dirt off her clothes and frowned at the mibbit

薇娜拂去衣服上的灰尘，对着毛球兽皱起了眉头。

" I'm guessing that thing was supposed to be Morb's security guard," she said." Shall we proceed?"

“我猜那东西本该是莫布的警卫吧，”她说。“我们继续前进吗？”

Zann opened his mouth to say yes

But his words were lost as an eerie howl echoed from the depths of the gorge

Gliss' eyes widened." What was that?"

Before anyone could respond, a huge head on a long, snakelike neck arose from the dark gorge

The orange glow of its eyes cut through the fog like flames

它眼中橙色的光芒像火焰般穿透了雾气。

With a loud roar, the creature exposed a mouth full of sharp fangs

随着一声震耳欲聋的咆哮，那怪物张开嘴，露出一口锋利的獠牙。

Wyssa went pale." It's the Beast of the Otherworld!"

薇莎脸色煞白。“是异界之兽！”
