" Don't fret," Wyssa said." I learned magic in a world nearly as devoid of natural magic as this one."

She led them in and out of several shops, gathering mysterious ingredients — a strong-smelling powder, some dried leaves, a ceramic bowl, and more

After a while Zann noticed that they were attracting more and more attention

" Or what if the man who took Zing finds us?" Zann said." He seemed really angry."

He felt nervous as Wyssa led the way back to the wormhole

Zann glanced at Wyssa. She'd finished mixing and was stepping toward the spot where the wormhole should be

" Excuse us," Zann told the little boy." We're kind of busy."

“失陪了，”扎恩对小男孩说，“我们有点儿忙。”

The boy ignored him, stepping closer to Zing

小男孩没理他，又朝Zing走近了些。

" There's no such thing as dragons," he insisted." So what is he?"

“根本没有龙这种东西。”他坚持说，“那他是什么？”

Zann was so anxious that he lost his patience

扎恩急得失去了耐心。

" There might not be dragons in your world, but there are in ours," he snapped

“你们的世界也许没有龙，可我们的世界有。”他厉声说道。

" We're trying to get home, and we're worried that a bad man might try to stop us

“我们在想办法回家，还担心有个坏蛋会来拦我们。

So we don't have time for questions, okay?"

The boy took a step back. He didn't say anything

男孩后退了一步，什么也没说。

" That wasn't very nice," Darb whispered

Zann shrugged. He felt bad, but he tried not to worry about it

All he cared about was getting out of this no-magic world

Just then a shout came from across the street

" Oh no!" Perda hissed." It's the guy who took Zing!"

The young man raced toward them clutching a large net

那个年轻男子紧抓着一张大网，朝他们冲了过来。

Behind him were two other men. They didn't look friendly

他身后还跟着另外两个男人，看起来来者不善。

Zann glanced at Wyssa. She was sprinkling her potion over the wormhole, which was starting to glow

扎恩瞥了一眼薇莎。她正把药水洒向虫洞，虫洞开始发光了。

But the men had almost reached them!

但那几个人眼看就要到跟前了！

" Hurry!" Gliss screamed." They're coming!" She grabbed Darb and crowded toward the wormhole

“快！”格丽丝尖叫道。“他们来了！”她抓着达布就往虫洞挤。

Zann grabbed Zing and did the same. But it was opening so slowly

扎恩抱起小星也照做了。可虫洞开得太慢了。

" Stop, thief!" the young man shouted." That dragon is mine! I — whoa!"

“站住，小偷！”那个年轻男子喊道。“那条龙是我的！我——哇啊！”

The little boy had kicked his ball

那个小男孩踢出了他的球。

The man tripped over it and slammed facedown into the pavement

" Oh no!" the other men cried, but they were running too fast to stop

They fell on top of their friend

" The wormhole's open!" Perda cried

Everyone held hands as Wyssa pulled the group into the wormhole

Zann barely had time to glance back at the little boy, who was grinning at the fallen men

" Thank you!" Zann shouted to the boy

“谢谢你！”扎恩朝那个男孩喊道。

The boy waved." You're welcome!"

男孩挥了挥手。“不客气！”

Then Zann found himself back in the vortex

紧接着，扎恩发现自己回到了虫洞漩涡里。

" Whew!" Perda exclaimed." I've never been so glad to be in this crazy place."

“呼！”珀达感叹道，“我从没这么高兴能待在这个疯狂的地方。”

Gliss laughed." Yeah. At least there's magic here!"

格利斯笑了。“是啊。至少这里有魔法！”

" We'd better stop and rest," Wyssa said

“我们最好停下来休息一下，”薇莎说。

" Being in a world without magic might have weakened our energy

And we'll need plenty to get safely back to Magica."

She pulled them through another wormhole

This time there were no people or buildings in sight

A babbling brook weaved its way through a grove of purple-leaved trees waving in a soft breeze

Soon they were all clothed and fed

" Weird," Zann muttered. He reached into his pocket and touched the message stone

" Are you awake, boy?" Wyssa stepped into view

" Good. We shouldn't stay here much longer."

" Why not?" Zann asked." What world is this, anyway?"

" It's my home world," Wyssa admitted." I'm, er, not exactly welcome here anymore

Besides, I promised your grandfather I'd get you kids home as quickly as possible."

" Boz?" Zann was startled." What does he have to do with this?"

Wyssa turned away without answering, nudging the others with her foot to wake them

Zann's friends cheered. But Zann felt his heart sink
