" Finally!" Zann thought as he landed in front of Vilkor's farmhouse

It had taken him and Perda two days to get there from the mines

its way to the farthest reaches of Terrica, including the mines.

fancy boots with pointy toes, and a golden crown.

He noticed a necklace decorated with several shiny red scales

" Hey!" he exclaimed." Those look like dragon scales!"

his other hand around dramatically.

A small metal tub appeared. The crowd gasped as

a young woman repeatedly thanked Vilkor.

She grabbed the tub and ran off.

Zann marched up to Vilkor, with Perda hopping behind him

he asked. "Where's Zing?"

" Hey, wait your turn!" a man complained

"We all came to ask favors."

She snapped her fingers and created a Shield

between herself and the crowd.

Zann barely noticed the villagers' cries of surprise and annoyance

" Oh! You two are alive!" Vilkor actually sounded pleased to see Zann and Perda

that cage the plonk farmer put him in."

He chuckled." He almost succeeded, actually

a metal cage to replace the old one."

" But where is he now?" Perda asked

magic powers." He rolled his eyes.

a perfectly ordinary girl in every way.

She also wanted to punish her for injuring one of her men

with that rock she conjured a few days ago."

Vilkor shrugged." The man ended up with a nasty bruise."

He seemed to be already losing interest in the conversation

His gaze wandered toward the crowd behind Perda's Shield

" Now if you'll excuse me, my fans are waiting."

" No, we won't excuse you!" Perda glared at him

Zann could see that Vilkor wasn't really listening

The crowd was chanting his name, and he was

watching the group with a smile.

Zann tried to think of a way to get through to him so he might help them

" Vilkor only really cares about himself," Zann thought. That gave him an idea

" It's not right that Zira is making all the decisions," Zann blurted out

should be in charge, right?"

Vilkor frowned, suddenly looking annoyed." That's true, boy

What right does she have to order me around and try to run things?

Perhaps I'd better speak to her about it immediately. Zap!"

He disappeared, prompting a disappointed sigh from the crowd

Zann glanced at Perda." I'm sure he just zapped to

Zira's place. Let's follow him."

She nodded, waited for Zann to grab her arm

and then snapped her fingers. "Zap!"
