The gorzog crept closer, growling and spitting foul-smelling mucus

" Gorzogs are the most dangerous creatures in this part of Terrica,"

Mellis warned Zann and Perda, her voice shaking.

" They're totally fearless and will eat anything — or anyone — they can grab."

The gorzog was ugly, but Zann didn't think it looked that scary

didn't have to look scary to be very dangerous.

the kids had left by the well.

Mellis darted toward another shovel

At that moment the gorzog leaped in the same direction

Its hind legs propelled it farther than Zann expected

It landed in front of Mellis, who screamed and tried to grab the shovel

The gorzog blocked her, growling loudly

" I'm coming!" Perda cried, rushing forward

but we can still save ourselves!"

Zann shot the man a disgusted look

" He isn't even going to try to rescue her!" he thought

Perda reached Mellis' side." Shield!" she shouted, clapping her hands

A translucent, glowing, green wall appeared between

the girls and the gorzog.

The creature lunged forward, hit the shield, and fell back

with an irritated shriek.

Zann gulped as the frustrated gorzog turned to face him

当恼怒的戈尔佐格转身对着他时，赞恩紧张地咽了口唾沫。

He thought about creating a Shield spell to protect himself and the two adults

Before he could, Zing flew past him, shooting fire in the gorzog's direction

" Go, Zing!" Zann shouted as the gorzog flinched at the flames

“上呀，小星！”赞恩喊道，那怪物被火焰逼得直往后退。

Perda and Mellis looked hopeful

佩达和梅利斯露出了充满希望的神情。

But the two adults looked perplexed

但那两位成年人都一脸困惑。

" A flying chupo?" Zira muttered, narrowing her eyes." Impossible!"

“一只会飞的丘波？”泽拉眯起眼睛嘀咕道，“不可能！”

" Is that chupo shooting fire out of its mouth?"

“那只丘波是在从嘴里喷火吗？”

Vilkor scratched his head, seeming to forget about the gorzog for a moment

The gorzog crouched low to the ground, tracking Zing with its yellowish eyes

那戈尔佐格伏低身子，用黄澄澄的眼睛追踪着小星的移动。

Suddenly it jumped up and spat a huge wad of goo at the little dragon

突然，它猛地跃起，朝小龙吐出一大团黏稠的唾液。

" Zing! No!" Zann cried as his pet fell to the ground

“小星！不！”看到宠物摔到地上，赞恩大叫。

The dragon tried to free his legs and wings from the gorzog's sticky spit

小龙想挣脱被戈尔佐格黏液粘住的腿和翅膀。

" Zing! Try singing!" Perda called

“小星！试试唱歌！”佩达喊道。

" Good idea," Zann said." Sing, little buddy, sing!"

“好主意，”赞恩说，“唱啊，小家伙，快唱！”

He wasn't sure if the fire whistler's distinctive song would work

the same way it did in Magica.

There, it hypnotized most creatures, though humans

and other dragons were immune.

Zing wriggled and writhed

His red tongue flicked in and out as he tried to clear the sticky spit from his snout

Zann held his breath. The gorzog was creeping closer

eyes locked on the helpless dragon.

Finally Zing managed to whistle a weak tune

The gorzog stopped, though Zann couldn't tell if it was

because it was hypnotized or merely surprised.

Out of the corner of his eye, Zann noticed that Perda had

dismissed the Shield spell.

Mellis was backing away, but Perda was tiptoeing closer to the gorzog

梅利斯正在后退，但佩达却踮着脚尖靠近了戈尔佐格。

" What is she doing?" Vilkor said

“她在干什么？”维科尔说。

" The gorzog is distracted by that chupo. This is our chance to run away!"

“戈尔佐格被那只丘波分散了注意力。我们逃跑的机会来了！”

" Or perhaps we could use magic to get away," Zira said

"What did you call it? A Zap?"

Zann ignored both of them." Sing louder, Zing," he said

赞恩没理会他们两个。“唱大声点，小星，”他说。

He wasn't sure what Perda had in mind, but he planned

to back her up if he could.

He took a step closer to the gorzog, hoping to distract its

attention away from her and Zing.

The gorzog growled at Zann. It stared at him and then at Zing

It seemed to be trying to decide which prey looked tastier

它似乎正在判断哪个猎物看起来更美味。

Suddenly Perda leaped forward

Zann guessed she'd used magic to propel herself farther than

she could have jumped on her own.

She landed right next to the gorzog

" Perda!" Mellis cried." What are you doing?"

Perda didn't look around or even flinch as the gorzog spun to face her

She reached out and tapped the monster on the head

while rubbing her side with her other hand.

" Shackle," she said loudly

The gorzog tried to leap at her

But as it did, magical shackles appeared on its legs

binding all four limbs together.

It flopped forward, its gnashing teeth only an inch from Perda

它向前扑倒，那尖利的牙齿离佩达只有一寸远。

" Whoa!" Zann laughed and hurried forward." That was awesome!"

“哇！”赞恩笑着跑了过去。“太棒了！”

" Thanks." Perda glanced down at the gorzog

“谢谢。”佩达瞥了一眼地上的戈尔佐格。

" Wow, this thing is even uglier up close."

“哇，这东西近看更丑了。”

Zann kneeled beside Zing, who was still struggling against the sticky spit

赞恩跪在小星身边，它还在挣扎着想摆脱那黏糊糊的唾沫。

" Hold still, buddy," he said. He rubbed his hands together

and used a Cleaning spell to remove the disgusting goo.

Zing immediately leaped into the air and flew around the helpless gorzog

小星立刻跳到空中，绕着那只动弹不得的戈尔佐格飞来飞去。

The dragon spat angry flames, though Zann noticed he didn't

get too close to the creature.

" Quite impressive, young lady," Vilkor said. He hurried forward

to give Mellis a hug.

" I'm glad you're safe. I don't know what I'd do without you, Mellis."

“你安全就好。没有你可怎么办，梅利斯。”

Zann stepped closer to Perda." He wasn't worried about

that a few seconds ago," he whispered.

旁白 neutral

" He was ready to run away and let her become the gorzog's lunch!"

“他当时都准备逃跑，让她去当戈尔佐格的点心了！”

" That's why we have to make sure she knows how to do magic

before we leave," Perda whispered back.

旁白 neutral

" Okay. But how are we going to get her away from those two?"

“好吧。可我们怎么才能让她离开那两个人呢？”

Zann shot a glance toward the adults

赞恩朝那两个大人瞥了一眼。

旁白 neutral

Vilkor was still patting his niece on the shoulder

while Zira was watching Zing fly around.

" That's not really a common chupo, is it?" Zira asked loudly

turning toward Zann and Perda.

旁白 neutral

" I've never seen nor heard of one that could fly and breathe fire."

“我从没见过，也没听说过有哪只会飞、会喷火。”

Zann gulped, thinking fast." Um, maybe the magic from

the well gave it new powers?"

" No, I think there's something you're not telling us."

“不，我想你们有些事瞒着我们。”

Zira folded her arms over her chest, her steely gaze

taking in Zann, Perda, and Zing.

旁白 neutral

" I think you traveled to Terrica from another world!"

“我想你们是从另一个世界来到泰瑞卡的！”
