Zann felt the wormhole's intense magic power pulling

at him and began to panic.

Then a strong pair of hands grabbed his shoulders

There was a yank, and the wormhole released him and Zing

He tumbled back onto the ground near the Wormwood tree

with the little dragon landing on his stomach.

Zann grunted. Looking up, he saw Perda staring down at him

" Phew! That was close," she said

“呼！好险。”她说。

Darb and Gliss hurried over." Good going, Perda," Darb said

" It looked like Zann and Zing were both going to get sucked in!"

“刚才看起来赞恩和辛都快被吸进去了！”

" We were, until Perda grabbed me," Zann admitted." Thanks."

“我们确实差一点，直到珀达抓住了我。”赞恩承认，“多谢了。”

" Can we get out of this creepy neighborhood now?" Gliss complained

“我们现在能离开这阴森森的鬼地方了吗？”格丽丝抱怨道。

" There's probably still time for a walk in the park or a boat ride

or something nice like that before dinnertime."

" Soon." Perda glanced at the huge tree." I want to study

the riddle a little more."

As Zann pushed Zing off him and stood up, he noticed the itchetch

creeping closer with its yellow eyes locked on Zing.

The dragon spit a burst of flame at the other creature

" Stop it, you two," Zann scolded." Or if you won't stop

at least move away from the wormhole."

He grabbed Zing's leash and dragged the little dragon around

to the opposite side of the huge tree trunk.

The itchetch followed

Zann released Zing and looked around

" I've never been to this side of the Wormwood tree before," he thought

Based on the rocky, rough ground, he guessed few people wandered here

Several large roots stuck out of the ground, and Zann noticed

that one had a particularly interesting shape.

" Come look at this, you guys!" he called

Perda appeared a moment later." What is it?"

" Where are Darb and Gliss?" Zann asked, stepping aside

as Zing chased the itchetch past him.

Perda rolled her eyes." I don't think they heard you," she said

" They're looking for another flower to put in Darb's hair

so the two of them will match."

Suddenly Zann couldn't stop wondering what would happen

if he tried to put a flower in Perda's hair.

Would she like it, or would she think it was silly?

" What did you want to show us?" she asked, interrupting his thoughts

“你想让我们看什么？”她问道，打断了他的思绪。

" Check out that root." Zann pointed." Doesn't it look like an angry troll?"

Perda laughed." Yeah, a little bit!" Then her smile faded, and she leaned forward

" Wait — do you see something in there?" She pointed to a hole

in the root that looked like the troll's open mouth.

Zann hadn't noticed it before, but now he did

The sunlight shining through the tree's branches

glinted off something metallic.

" Careful," he said as Perda crouched down for a closer look

" I heard that the people in Wormwood sometimes leave stuff

for one another near this tree.

旁白 neutral

Illegal stuff from other worlds, even."

" I know." Perda stared into the hole." But what if it's not that?

Maybe that's a clue, and whatever's in the hole is important somehow."

It seemed much more likely that the glinting object was an illicit stone

from another world or something like that.

Then again, Perda was one of the smartest people

he knew. Maybe she was right.

" Let's try to get it out, then," he said." But we should

be careful. Don't touch it."

Perda nodded." Let's try a Levitation spell to lift it out."

珀达点了点头。"我们试试用漂浮咒把它升起来。"

She tried the spell on her own first, but nothing happened

她先自己试了咒语，但什么都没发生。

So she and Zann joined their friction by rubbing their

hands together. The metal item didn't move.

Perda sat back on her heels." We could ask Gliss to help,"

she said, peering around the trunk.

" Or we could spend all day trying to figure out other spells to use

Or..." She leaned forward and stuck her hand into the hole

Zann bit his lip." Perda, don't — "

" Got it!" Perda pulled her arm out, clutching something tightly

At the same moment, Zann felt a shock wave of magic energy burst over him

He gasped and Perda's eyes went wide

Even Zing and the itchetch noticed and stopped chasing

each other for a moment.

" What was that?" Zann asked." It happened right

when you pulled your hand out."

Then he gasped again." Look!"

紧接着他又吸了口气。“快看！”

A wormhole suddenly spun open at their feet, nestled

between two large, gnarled roots.

" Whoa," Perda said." Is that a wormhole? It looks... different."

“哇，”珀达说。“那是个虫洞吗？看起来……不太一样。”

" I've never seen one on the ground before," Zann said, taking

a step back from the swirling hole.

" And how can it exist so close to the other one?

I thought that never happened."

旁白 neutral

Perda nodded, looking a bit pale." Do you think

it opened because of this?"

旁白 neutral

She opened her hand to reveal a small, dirty scrap of metal

她摊开手掌，露出一小块脏兮兮的金属片。

" It looks like a leaf," Zann said

“看起来像片树叶，”赞恩说。

" What if it's a powerful relic, like the Dragontamer's

Charm or something like that?"

Before Perda could answer, they both heard a loud snarl

Zing had just slapped the itchetch with his tail

辛刚用尾巴拍了小刺怪一下。

The itchetch responded by leaping forward and giving the dragon a shove

小刺怪也不甘示弱，跳起来推了小龙一把。

Zing tumbled backward — right into the new wormhole!

辛向后一个趔趄——直接掉进了那个新虫洞！

" Zing!" Zann shouted, barely managing to grab one of

the dragon's wings before it disappeared.

" Oh, no! Not again!" Perda cried, grabbing Zann's arm

“哦，不！又来了！”珀达喊道，一把抓住赞恩的胳膊。

Zann was relieved — but only for a second

赞恩松了口气——但仅仅持续了一秒。

Because this time, even though Perda was pulling as hard as

she could, the wormhole kept sucking them farther in.

" Help!" he shouted frantically as his whole arm disappeared

after Zing. "Guys, we need help over here!"

There was an answering shout. But Zann barely caught

a glimpse of an alarmed-looking Darb and Gliss.

As they appeared from around the tree, he, Zing, and Perda

were sucked all the way into the wormhole.
