Fala shook her head." Nobody can tamper with a vote toad

She zapped off without another word

Gliss frowned." Now that Laddno is king, will he release the prisoners soon?"

" I'm sure he will," Darb assured her

" There's no reason for him to keep them locked up."

" You're right." Zann felt restless

Seconds later they were inside

Zann grinned at Perda, impressed again by how adept she was at learning magic

He stopped talking and gasped as a strong wave of magic energy hit him

Mari turned to face Zann and his friends. She smiled

" You mean the weird spell? I don't know. But this is pretty exciting, huh?"

Zann was surprised that she looked so happy

Before he could ask why, there was a commotion at the front of the crowd

Suddenly a tall, gold-colored stage appeared

Laddno walked onto it with a big grin on his face

He was wearing a ceremonial robe

" Welcome, citizens!" A Swelling spell allowed his voice to be heard over the noise of the crowd

" We didn't have much choice, did we?" a man yelled

His voice became louder as people booed

As Laddno continued to talk, Zann didn't pay much attention

Suddenly Perda elbowed Zann." Who's that?"

A figure had appeared beside Laddno. A dark cloak hid the person's face from view

Laddno glanced at the figure." Oh, right, I almost forgot," Laddno said

" The reason I called you here is to introduce you to my new associate, Brom

He will be, er, assisting me as I rule Magica."

" Associate?" Gliss sounded confused." What does he mean?"

Zann shrugged. Curious, he leaned forward as the stranger threw back his hood

Perda's eyes were still on the stranger

" Something about him reminds me of Ello." She gulped." Not the real Ello, but when — "

Just then Brom pushed forward, almost knocking Laddno off the stage

He snapped his fingers, and suddenly his face changed
