He looked around." Where's Mari?"

Perda shook her head." She zapped out on her own

I barely had time to grab Darb and Gliss before zapping out of the lab."

" How'd you find me so fast?" Zann asked

Perda grinned." I learned a new spell."

" Is it some sort of Tracking spell?" Zann was intrigued

“是某种追踪类的咒语吗？”赞恩很好奇。

" It's called a Uniting spell," Perda said

" I read about it in a book about magic from other worlds

The spell can only be used to find someone who wants to be found."

" Can you use the spell to find Wyssa?" Zann asked

Perda shrugged." I can try."

She rubbed her hands against her forehead and closed her eyes

她用手揉了揉额头，闭上了眼睛。

Then she muttered a few words that Zann couldn't hear

然后她咕哝了几个词，赞恩听不清是什么。

Perda opened her eyes and looked around." Sorry, it's not working."

" I guess Wyssa doesn't want to be found," Darb said

Zann sighed." We need to find her."

Gliss glanced around

格丽丝扫视了一下周围。

" We're pretty close to Wormwood. Maybe someone there has seen her."

“我们离苦艾镇很近了。也许那里有人见过她。”

" Let's go," Zann said

“我们走，”赞恩说。

When they arrived at Wormwood, a familiar voice called out

" Don't bother walking any farther!" It was Hap

“别再往前走了！”是哈普。

Zann stopped." Why not?"

赞恩停下脚步。“为什么？”

" You can't get in." Hap waved a hand toward the collection of huts

“你们进不去的。”哈普朝那片棚屋一挥手。

" Someone put a spell over the whole place

“有人给整个地方施了咒。

I can't even get in to check on my valuables!"

我连进去看看我的宝贝都不行！”

" Why would someone put a spell over Wormwood?" Perda asked

“为什么会有人给苦艾地施咒？”珀达问道。

" I don't know," Hap grumbled

“不知道。”哈普咕哝道。

Zann took another step forward. He couldn't see any sort of Shield

赞恩又向前迈了一步。他看不到任何形式的护盾。

Suddenly his leg became stuck

突然，他的腿被卡住了。

" Hey!" Zann cried. It felt as if he'd stepped into a wall of gooey glowberry pudding

“嘿！”赞恩叫了起来。感觉就像一脚踩进了黏糊糊的灿莓布丁墙里。

" What's wrong?" Perda rushed forward and then stopped

“怎么了？”珀达冲上前，又猛地停住了。

" Ack! I'm stuck too!"

“哎呀！我也被粘住了！”

" Pull us out!" Zann called to Gliss and Darb

“把我们拉出去！”赞恩冲格林和达布喊道。

" Don't come too close though."

“不过别靠太近。”

旁白 neutral

" I warned you," Hap said once Zann and Perda were freed

“我警告过你们的，”赞恩和珀达一脱身，哈普便说道。

Zann rubbed his leg, which still felt sticky

赞恩揉了揉腿，还感觉黏糊糊的。

" What a weird spell."

“真是个古怪的咒语。”

旁白 neutral

" I already sent a message moth to Laddno to alert him." Hap chuckled

“我早就送了只讯息蛾去通知拉德诺了。”哈普轻笑着说。

" He'll be our king soon. He might as well get to work now, right?"

“他很快就当国王了，现在开始干活不也挺好，对吧？”

" Do you really think he'll win the election?" Zann asked

“你真的觉得他会赢得选举吗？”赞恩问。

Hap shrugged." I don't know

哈普耸耸肩：“我不知道。”

旁白 neutral

But I hear he's going to bring in extra magic energy

但我听说他会引入额外的魔法能量。

Soon we'll all have enough magic to create our own palaces!"

很快我们都会有足够的魔法来建造自己的宫殿了！”

" Is Laddno really telling people that?" Gliss asked." I doubt it's true."

“拉德诺真是那样跟大家说的吗？”格丽丝问道，“我很怀疑那是真的。”

" Never mind." Zann tugged on her arm." Let's go."

“别管了。”赞恩拽了拽她的胳膊，“我们走吧。”

It was starting to get dark, so the kids returned to Teplo's place

Fala was waiting for them

" Good news," she said." Many people think Venna will win the vote easily tomorrow."

Gliss smiled." Once Venna is queen, she's sure to release the prisoners."

格丽丝笑了。“一旦薇娜当上女王，她肯定会释放囚犯的。”

" And then she can help us figure out what to do about Morb," Perda said

“然后她就能帮我们想出对付莫布的办法了。”珀达说。

" Right," Fala said." Now let's all get some rest, and we'll deal with everything else tomorrow."

The next day the kids came out of the hatch and found a large, multicolored toad waiting for them

" Vote! Vote!" it croaked loudly

“投票！投票！”它大声地呱呱叫着。

" We know," Zann said with a smile

He touched the toad on the head, and his fingers tingled

A second later the toad spit out a voting ballot with Zann's name on it

Zann picked it up and magically inscribed " Venna " on it

赞恩捡起选票，用魔法在上面写下了“薇娜”。

Then he tossed it to the toad, which caught it on its long tongue and gulped it down

然后他把选票扔给蟾蜍，蟾蜍用长长的舌头接住，一口吞了下去。

One by one, Zann's friends and Fala cast their votes the same way

Vote toads had been in charge of elections ever since Zann could remember

Up and down the street, he could see other people voting through other toads

Once every vote in Magica had been swallowed, the toads would gather in the palace square to present the results

They spent the next few hours wandering around the city

Vote toads were everywhere, and so were voters

Everyone seemed excited that the election was here at last

Eventually the kids wandered past the palace square

Then the door opened and Laddno hurried out, flanked by a pair of trolls

" I'd like to vote, please!" he announced loudly, pushing past a woman who was about to touch the toad

“我想投票，谢谢！”他大声宣布，推开了一位正要触碰蟾蜍的女士。

The toad croaked, casting a wary eye toward the trolls

蟾蜍呱呱叫着，警惕地看了一眼那些巨魔。

Laddno patted the toad on the head

拉德诺拍了拍蟾蜍的头。

He wrote on his ballot in large, glowing letters

他在选票上写下了大大的、闪闪发光的字。

Then he tossed it back to the toad, which gulped it quickly

然后把选票扔回给蟾蜍，蟾蜍迅速吞了下去。

" Thank you!" Laddno glanced around at the palace workers as if he expected applause

“谢谢！”拉德诺环顾了一下宫殿工作人员，好像在期待掌声。

When nobody said anything, he frowned and went back into the palace

见没人说话，他皱起眉头，走回了宫殿。

The trolls remained in the square

" Let's get out of here," Zann whispered

“我们离开这儿吧。”赞恩小声说。

" We haven't found Wyssa, so let's go to Venna's campaign headquarters to hear the election results."

“我们还没找到薇萨，不如去薇娜的竞选总部听听选举结果。”

Later they waited with Fala, Venna, Maff, and various other adults

后来，他们和法拉、薇娜、马夫以及其他许多成年人一起等待着。

Finally a glowing image of a vote toad appeared in the sky

终于，天空中出现了一个闪闪发光的投票蟾蜍的影像。

The toad's tongue flicked out, inscribing a number beside a picture of Venna and another number beside a picture of Laddno

A gasp went up from the crowd. Laddno had won!
