she put finishing touches on the witches' black cauldron.

" The cauldron looks amazing, Winnie," Ben said." So do all the costumes."

" Whatever works," Winnie said

" Are you still worried about the curse?" Ben asked

She shrugged." Not really. The show seems to be running smoothly now."

Ben nodded." Mog has finally stopped saying that name

And now that Jen has a headset, she doesn't have to move around so much

而且珍现在有了耳机，不用老是走来走去了。

She's not leaving slime trails on the stage anymore."

她再也不会在舞台上留下一道道黏液了。”

Winnie chuckled." I'd better get the costumes onstage so everyone can see

them before rehearsal starts."

Winnie started to roll a large rack filled with costumes

温妮开始推动一个装满了戏服的大架子。

" Want me to bring the cauldron?" Ben asked

“要我把那口大锅拿来吗？”本问。

" I'll get it later," Winnie said

A group of excited monsters immediately gathered around the costumes

" Ooh!" A purple monster pointed to a long white gown." Look at that one!"

" That's for Gaby," a skeleton said

Ozzy held up a soldier costume." I can't wear this. It doesn't have arms!"

奥兹举起一件士兵服。“我穿不了这个。它没袖子！”

" I'll take that, thank you." A long serpent monster snatched

the costume with his fangs.

He turned to Winnie." This looks fabulous!"

他转向温妮。“这看起来太棒了！”

Winnie beamed." I'm glad you like it, Miles."

温妮笑容满面。“你喜欢就好，迈尔斯。”

" Step aside!" Jade pushed through the crowd, along with the other two witches

" Where are our costumes?" Sonia asked

Winnie pulled three costumes off the rack

温妮从架子上取下三件戏服。

The long, dark gowns were covered with cobwebs

and intricate beadwork spiders.

Winnie drew in a nervous breath." What do you think, witches?"

温妮紧张地吸了一口气。“你们觉得怎么样，女巫们？”

Sonia was the first witch to speak." We are going to look so good!"

" I love the spiders!" Jade exclaimed

Ben grinned." Your costumes are a hit, Winnie!" he whispered

" Can we try them on?" Lucy asked

“我们能试穿一下吗？”露西问道。

" I think we should wait for Ms. Lafang," Winnie said

“我觉得我们应该等拉方老师来，”温妮说。

" Fine." Lucy tossed her hair." What about our cauldron? Can we see that?"

“好吧。”露西甩了甩头发。“我们的大锅呢？能看看那个吗？”

" Sure," Winnie said

“当然可以，”温妮说。

旁白 neutral

" I'll go get it," Ben volunteered

“我去拿，”本主动说道。

旁白 neutral

Ben hurried backstage to retrieve the large papier-mâché cauldron

本急忙跑到后台去取那个巨大的纸质大锅。

But as he bent to pick it up, a light flashed from onstage

但当他弯腰去捡时，舞台那边闪过一道光。

" That was weird," he thought

“这有点奇怪，”他想。

As Ben headed back toward the others, the light flashed again

当本朝其他人走回去时，那道光又闪了一下。

Then he saw what had caused it

While Winnie helped the octopus monster into her costume, the witches

were admiring themselves in a handheld mirror.

" No mirrors!" Ben cried

He zipped across the stage toward the mirror, without stopping to think — or

see the two skeletons in his way.

Boom! Ben crashed into the two skeletons, sending

them clattering to the ground.

He struggled to hold onto the big cauldron, but it slipped from his hands

and rolled right into the rack of costumes.

旁白 neutral

" Ahh!" Winnie shrieked as the rack went rolling into a stack of open paint

cans at the other side of the stage.

Everyone watched in disbelief as the paint cans flew through the air

" No!" A big blue monster got hit with green paint

A ghoul became pink

And the cauldron — along with every costume on the rack — was covered in..

Ben gasped." Bright blue paint! Remember the superstition — we can't

have blue costumes!"

" Our beautiful costumes!" Sonia cried

" Ben!" Lucy balled her fists and glowered at him

“本！”露西握紧拳头，怒视着他。

" You ruined everything... again!"

" I'm sorry!" Ben cried." But mirrors are bad luck onstage, and — "

" Students!" Mr. Freaky shouted, racing into the auditorium

“同学们！”怪诞老师大喊着冲进了礼堂。

" What's going on?" Abruptly he halted, his noses wiggling as he stared

in shock at the damage.

" Who did this?"

“这是谁干的？”

The witches and a few others spun toward Ben

" Ben did it!" Lucy snapped

" Mirrors and blue costumes might be bad luck onstage — but

he's even worse!"

Heat flooded Ben's face." It's true, Mr. Freaky

I was worried about the mirror

I just wanted to get it offstage before something terrible..."

Ben tried to keep defending himself, but then he saw the tears

streaming down Winnie's face.

He snapped his mouth closed

Her beautiful costumes and cauldron were ruined, and it was all his fault

in his hands and moaned.

Ben floated backstage and slipped out through a back wall
