Ben watched the net of balloons carefully, still holding his breath

prevented the net from falling.

She waved Ben over." You can reach it," she mouthed

Ben zoomed over to the knot. Below, the audience

in the risers began to cheer and clap.

Zork had reached the other side of the high wire without falling

" Hooray!" a goblin shouted." He did it!"

" That's a relief!" Ben thought as he started working on the knot

Unfortunately, it was slow work

The rope had frayed, and Ben's fingers trembled

as he tried to undo the tight knot.

" Ugh!" he groaned." This is going to take forever!"

" You can do it!" Gaby called up to him." Don't give up!"

A second later an amazed gasp rose from the crowd

Ben looked down to see Maddy juggling dodo eggs with her tentacles

She stepped down from the stage and began walking, mixing among

the audience members who were sitting near the front of the stage.

For a moment the crowd seemed to enjoy her act

Then — whoosh! Maddy shot out one of her tentacles

and grabbed a small, three-eyed monster.

The tiny monster cried in surprise as Maddy tossed him

into the air with the dodo eggs.

" Hey!" he yelled." Stop juggling me! I'm not a dodo egg!"

“嘿！”他喊道，“别再抛接我啦！我不是渡渡鸟蛋！”

The monster's mother jumped to her feet." Mr. Freaky! Do something!"

那位怪物的母亲跳了起来。"怪诞先生！快想想办法！"

" Oh dear!" Mr. Freaky tried to get close to Maddy

"哦，天哪！" 怪诞先生试图靠近麦迪。

One of her tentacles knocked him over

" Ben, hurry!" Gaby urged

" I'm trying!" Ben said." I'm going as fast as I can!"

For the next minute, Ben worked on the knot while stealing

quick glances at the scene below.

The audience watched uneasily as Maddy juggled dodo eggs

and the young monster.

A surprised shout rang out when she suddenly reached into

the crowd again, grabbing a second monster child.

Sarah Swingwire raced toward Maddy, desperately waving her arms

and snapping her gum to get the octopus monster's attention.

But it was no use. The crowd was still too loud, and Maddy

was paying no attention to Sarah.

By now her eyes were locked on something else

in the crowd—little Timothy Hubbletree.

旁白 neutral

" That octopus monster wants to juggle me!" Timothy shouted

“那只章鱼怪想拿我玩杂耍！”蒂莫西大叫道。

Mayor Hubbletree leaped to his feet, frantically trying

to shield Timothy from Maddy's flying tentacles.

" Freaky!" the mayor yelled furiously." If anything happens

to my son, you're in big trouble!"

Mr. Freaky stood back up, his noses wiggling

怪胎先生重新站起来，他的几个鼻子都在扭动。

" Stop juggling those children right now, Maddy!" Maddy

didn't seem to hear him.

The principal looked at Ringmaster Ronny

校长看向马戏团主罗尼。

" Why is Maddy acting like this? Is this part of her act?"

“麦迪为什么会这样？这也是她表演的一部分吗？”

The ringmaster shrugged." I don't know what's going on

马戏团主耸耸肩。“我也不知道这是怎么回事。

We've never worked with monsters before. And we

probably never will again!"

Ben swung back to the knot. He'd almost untangled it

when the crowd below went completely silent.

A chill ran up Ben's spine. Now what was happening?

A new act had started

Deb hung upside down from the trapeze bar by her knees, holding Winnie

by the arms and swinging her back and forth.

When Deb let go, Winnie was supposed to sail toward another trapeze bar

But as Deb swung her, Winnie missed — and sailed out over the audience!

Ben gasped." Winnie!" he shouted." No!"

Everyone in the room seemed to hold their breath until Winnie somehow managed

to reach out and grab one of the metal rafters running across the ceiling.

" Whew!" Ben said. Thank goodness Winnie was safe

Mr. Freaky rushed to the microphone onstage

" Please calm down, everyone." He blew his noses

" There's nothing to worry about — everything is totally under control!"

" Are you kidding?" Mayor Hubbletree shouted

"你在开玩笑吗？"哈勃特里市长怒吼道。

" Nothing is under control here! Every time I come here, there's total chaos!"

" Mayor Hubbletree is right," Ben thought

He guessed he had only seconds before the gym really

did descend into total chaos.

Finally he untied the knot

" Yes!" he cried as the net swung open

The stunned audience looked up, mesmerized as hundreds

of colorful balloons drifted down toward them.

Ben drew in a breath, frantically trying to locate Waldo in the crowd

At last he spotted him — standing in perfect position in front of the risers

终于他找到了——沃尔多正站在看台前一个绝佳的位置。

" It's up to you now, Waldo," Ben thought." Please don't mess this up!"

"现在就靠你了，沃尔多，"本想道。"千万别搞砸了！"

Waldo waved his wand and — poof! Little Timothy turned into a porcupine!

沃尔多一挥魔杖，噗的一声！小蒂莫西变成了一只豪猪！

" Oh no!" Ben cried

"哦，不！"本惊呼。

" That's it!" Mayor Hubbletree shouted." This place is a... a... circus!"

"够了！"哈勃特里市长大喊道。"这地方简直就是个……就是个……马戏团！"
