At school Ben peeked into the gym to see if Winnie and the others were still working on the decorations

" Wow!" he burst out

Silky spider webs shimmered from the ceiling, and eerie lights cast spooky shadows around the room

Onstage the Boneyard Brass Band was setting up their equipment

One skeleton tuned a trumpet, while another tapped a tune on his own rib cage

" Winnie?" Ben called. The skeletons looked up, but there was no sign of Winnie or anyone else from the dance committee

Ben stepped out into the hallway

" Hey, Ben!" Waldo Wizz called." You're here early."

" Yeah." Ben shrugged." Winnie's here already, decorating the gym

" I think she finished decorating," Waldo reported

I've got nothing to do now, so I was going to check on my latest magic experiment. Want to see it?"

" Sure," said Ben

" It's in the science lab, and it's top secret."

Waldo led the way to the lab

" You can't tell anyone about it."

Ben held up a hand." I promise, Waldo."

As they turned a corner, Waldo bumped into a large purple blob

His glasses flew off his face

" Oh!" Waldo fumbled for them on the floor and then put them back on." Hi, Jen."

" Sorry about that, Waldo," said the blob

“真抱歉，沃尔多，”那个大块头说。

" You haven't seen a, um, human around here, have you?"

" A human?" echoed Waldo

" He's my date," said Jen awkwardly

Ben wasn't sure, but the purple blob appeared to be blushing

本不太确定，但那团紫色的大块头似乎在脸红。

" I left him alone while I got ready upstairs with the witches

Now I can't find him."

" We haven't seen him," Waldo said to Jen

" If we do, though, we'll let him know you're looking for him."

" He's a little freaked out by Monster Academy," said the blob, jiggling as she talked

" I don't understand humans sometimes."

" Yeah, humans are weird," agreed Waldo." We'll keep an eye out for him."

" Thanks, Waldo." Jen moved past Waldo and Ben, and glided down the hallway, leaving behind a shiny trail of slime

" I didn't know there'd be a human at the Monster Mash," said Waldo

" Me neither," said Ben. He shivered." Creepy!"

Ben and Waldo entered the science lab

Inside, Waldo gasped. A strange purple fog filled the room

在里面，沃尔多吃了一惊。一股奇怪的紫色雾气充满了房间。

Through the fog Ben could see test tubes and rubber hoses on a counter in the back

透过雾气，本能看见后方台子上有试管和橡胶软管。

Near them a small appliance that looked like a pressure cooker beeped noisily

在它们旁边，一个像压力锅似的小器具正发出嘈杂的哔哔声。

Waldo rushed to the back of the lab

He quickly flipped a switch on the appliance, and the beeping stopped

Ben floated over and saw that the hoses were all connected to the small appliance

本飘过去，看到软管全都连在那个小器具上。

" I'm trying to make a talk potion," Waldo explained

“我在试着做一种说话魔药，”沃尔多解释说。

" Whoever drinks the potion will talk and talk and talk."

“谁喝了这魔药，就会说啊说啊说个不停。”

" Why would anyone want to drink a talk potion?" asked Ben

“为什么会有人想喝说话魔药呢？”本问道。

" It's mostly for shy people," Waldo explained

“这主要是给害羞的人用的，”沃尔多解释道。

" But..." His cheeks were bright pink

“可是……”他的脸颊涨得通红。

" But it looks like somebody pulled all the hoses off the test tubes!

“可好像有人把试管上的管子全拔掉了！

Who would do that?"

谁会这么做？”

旁白 neutral

" Shy people?" said Ben

“害羞的人？”本说。

旁白 neutral

Waldo gave Ben a funny look

沃尔多古怪地看了本一眼。

" Why would shy people try to ruin my potion?"

“害羞的人为什么要毁掉我的魔药？”

旁白 neutral

" No, I mean..." Ben tried to explain

“不，我是说……”本想解释。

旁白 neutral

" You said this talk potion is for shy people

“你说这种说话魔药是给害羞的人用的。

旁白 neutral

So I was asking why shy people would need it."

所以我是在问害羞的人为什么会需要它。”

" Oh, right," said Waldo

“哦，对，”沃尔多说。

旁白 neutral

He began putting the hoses back on the test tubes

他开始把管子装回试管上。

" Well, usually shy people don't know what to talk about

“嗯，害羞的人通常不知道要聊什么。

But if they drink my potion, they'll have plenty to talk about

但如果他们喝了我的魔药，就会有很多话可聊。

Police could also use it on suspects who are refusing to talk."

" Oh, I see," said Ben

Though, knowing Waldo, Ben had a feeling that the potion might not work exactly as Waldo had described." Is everything okay?"

By now the purple fog in the room was beginning to clear

Ben could see it disappearing into an air vent in the ceiling

Boom! A sound came from the front of the room

" What was that?" Ben asked

Waldo was still busy fixing his equipment

沃尔多还在忙着修理他的设备。

" There!" he said triumphantly as the appliance began to hum

“好了！”当机器开始嗡嗡作响时，他得意地说。

Ben saw that the door to the lab was now shut

本看到实验室的门现在关上了。

He hurried over and tried the handle." Uh, Waldo..." he said nervously

他赶紧走过去试了试门把手。“呃，沃尔多……”他紧张地说。

" I think we're locked in here."

“我想我们被锁在这里面了。”

旁白 neutral

" Huh?" Waldo finally looked up." What?"

“啊？”沃尔多终于抬起头。“什么？”

Ben tried the handle again, but the door still wouldn't budge

本又试了试门把手，但门还是纹丝不动。

" I mean that someone locked us in the science lab. We can't get out!"

“我是说有人把我们锁在科学实验室里了。我们出不去了！”
