Later that afternoon the Green Club was finishing work for

the day when Mr. Freaky arrived.

He was dressed in golfing clothes and carrying a bag of

golf clubs on his shoulder.

" What's he doing here?" Ben wondered

" Hi, Mr. Freaky!" Ben floated over to the principal

" I didn't know you play golf."

We just finished playing a round at Monsterville Links,"

Mr. Freaky explained.

" And I have good news! The mayor has agreed to officiate at the wedding."

" Wow!" Ben said." Uncle Bert and Victoria will be happy to hear that."

Mr. Freaky's three noses wiggled.

to see all the monster movie stars at the wedding.

And Monster Academy is going to look fabulous, thanks

to the Green Club's new garden!"

" As long as it's ready in time," Ben thought

She was planting flowers with Winnie and a skeleton for

the field of black-and-orange flowers.

" Be right there!" Ben called back." Well, thanks for stopping by, Mr. Freaky."

" I'm not leaving until I get a tour of the garden."

“不参观一下花园，我是不会走的。”

Mr. Freaky put his bag of golf clubs down and followed Ben

奇特先生放下他的高尔夫球杆袋，跟着本走了。

" Sure," Ben said." But there's not much to see. We're just getting started."

" You're farther along than I ever got at home," Mr. Freaky said

" At least you don't have pests nibbling on everything."

Ben forced a laugh, thinking about his map." Right."

First Ben and Mr. Freaky checked out the field of flowers

Waldo had fertilized some of them, and a few already had tiny buds

" All the flowers should start blooming by next week," Jen said

" Right on time for the wedding," Winnie added

Next they watched Mog and the fish monster finish filling

the piranha pond with water.

" We're almost ready to put the piranhas in," Mog said

" Thanks." Ben smiled. Things were going pretty well so far

But when they went to check on Waldo and the ground

creeper vines, Ben felt a fresh pang of worry.

Waldo and others had just finished planting the vines, and most of

the plants looked pretty tiny.

" Did you fertilize them yet?" Ben asked

" Yep, I used just the right amount." Waldo showed Ben the bottle of fertilizer

A golf club suddenly flew out of his bag

Monsters laughed as the club danced crazily through the air

" Mr. Freaky, how do you make your golf club do that?" Mog asked

“奇特先生，你是怎么让球杆那样动的？”莫格问道。

" I'm not doing anything!" Mr. Freaky said

“我什么都没做！”奇特先生说。

The club danced around for a few more seconds

球杆又舞动了几秒钟。

Then it flew through the air and crashed into the half-built archway

接着它飞过空中，撞上了建了一半的拱门。

Splinters of wood flew everywhere

木头碎片四处飞溅。

Ben ran over to pick up the golf club and heard a sniffling sound

本跑过去捡高尔夫球杆，听到了一阵抽泣声。

He looked around." Sid? Is that you?"

他环顾四周。“希德？是你吗？”

" Yes." Sid slowly turned visible, wiping tears from his eyes

" I'm sorry." He sniffed

“对不起。”他抽了抽鼻子。

" I was trying to be scary in my own way, so I went

invisible and grabbed the golf club.

But it flew out of my hand and hit the archway

可它从我手里飞了出去，撞上了拱门。

And everybody was laughing at me. I didn't scare anyone!"

A few other monsters hurried over

" Don't cry, Sid." Winnie comforted him with a hug

" Yeah," Mog said." You'll be scary someday."

After Mr. Freaky had left, everyone started cleaning up

Ben was pushing the wheelbarrow toward the shed

when he felt the ground shaking.

" Hey, Gaby," Ben called over his shoulder

" Can you please stop jumping? It's really hard to push this wheelbarrow!"

“能请你别跳了吗？推这辆手推车真的很费劲！”

" It's not me," Gaby called back

“不是我，”盖比也喊道。

" Maybe a truck went by," the fish monster said

“也许是有卡车开过去了，”鱼怪说。

But the shaking got stronger

但震动变得更厉害了。

" It's ra-ra-rattling my bones!" the skeleton cried

“它震-震-震得我骨头咯咯响！”骷髅怪大叫道。

" Yikes!" Jen cried

Ben looked where Jen was pointing

A giant sinkhole was opening up in the ground

" Oh no!" Mog cried as a loud sucking sound filled the air

" The sinkhole just swallowed our piranha pond!"
