Early on Tuesday morning, Ben mopped the hallway outside of

Mr. Freaky's office, just as Mr. Bog usually did.

A few minutes later, the four safety patrol volunteers — Mog, Waldo, Gaby

and Jen—exited the office with Mr. Freaky.

They followed him to a closet down the hallway

" I'm sorry, Mr. Freaky." Waldo scratched his head

He pulled out several booklets and handed them out

" The office ogre told me about these old safety patrol handbooks,"

Mr. Freaky said.

" It turns out Monster Academy did have a safety patrol

a long time ago."

Gaby frowned as she flipped through her booklet

" The pictures look really old, Mr. Freaky

Mr. Freaky's noses wiggled.

the monster safety patrol.

It's a lot of responsibility, but you four can do it."

Mog was the only one who didn't seem worried

The safety patrol members slipped on their sashes and pinned

the badges to their clothes.

Ben continued to mop as Mog, Waldo, and Gaby headed down the hallway

Jen stayed behind, still reading the handbook

A moment later Ben heard Waldo scolding a goblin

" Ugh. Fine." The goblin picked a fried-eyes wrapper off the floor

" No broom-flying in the hallway!" Gaby shouted

Ben saw a witch land her broom." Gee, sorry," she said

Mog stomped over to two zombies

" I saw you drooling on the floor!" he snapped

" That's a violation of..." He flipped through the handbook

" Er, rule number six — no drooling on school property."

The zombies stared blankly at him

僵尸们茫然地盯着他。

Mog huffed." I know you understand me!"

As the two zombies walked away, Mog thumped his chest

" Monster safety patrol is awesome!"

" I hope the safety patrol officers don't get too carried away," Ben thought

Yesterday he'd thought a monster safety patrol was a great idea

But today, watching the officers patrol the halls, he felt less certain

At lunchtime Mr. Freaky asked Ben, Winnie, and Cleo to clean the area near

the school's main entrance.

On the way there, the three of them reviewed some of the jobs

they still had to do.

" I wish humans liked mold and cobwebs," Cleo complained

" There would be a lot less cleaning to do."

While Cleo started dusting, Winnie and Ben set up a tall ladder

so they could clean windows.

Winnie climbed up, carrying a bucket filled with soapy water and a sponge

As she soaped the windows, Ben floated nearby with a squeegee and rags

echoed down the hallway.

Winnie was so startled, she nearly fell off the ladder

" Put down those cleaning supplies!" the voice shouted

It was Jen, rushing toward them and holding up her badge

to keep the school clean."

She looked up at Ben and Winnie.

" Ben, you're not using the ladder properly."

" I'm not using the ladder at all," Ben said." I'm floating."

" And, Winnie," Jen said." Did you check first to make

sure the ladder is secure?"

" Huh?" Winnie said." The ladder is — hey!"

Jen shook the ladder." It seems unsteady to me," she said

" Because you're shaking it!" Winnie said, holding on tightly

The bucket of soapy water toppled over

Winnie grabbed for it and nearly fell off the ladder

The bucket bounced off Jen, spilling soapy water

all over the hallway.
