From the beginning of time, a rock had sat high on top of a mountain

从开天辟地起，一块石头高高地矗立在山顶之上。

The sun, the moon, heaven and earth all worked their magic on the rock

日月天地，皆将神力施于此石。

One day, the rock split open

某日，石头裂开了。

Inside was a monkey

里面走出一只猴子。

The monkey stood up and stretched

猴子站起身来，伸了个懒腰。

Suddenly, powerful light shot from his eyes

忽然，他的眼睛射出一道强光。

For a moment, the light reached the cloud palace in heaven

那光芒瞬间照彻天宫云殿。

The Jade Emperor, ruler of Heaven, sat up

天庭之主玉皇大帝坐直了身子。

He turned to one of his captains, who was standing nearby

他转向站在一旁的一位天将。

" Find out what caused that light," said the Emperor

"查清那道光是从何而来的，"皇帝说。

" Yes, Your Majesty," said the captain

"遵旨，陛下，"天将说。

The captain rushed out of the hall

天将急忙冲出大殿。

He looked out the southern gate of heaven and saw the monkey on earth below

他从南天门望去，看见了下方大地上的那只猴子。

The light was gone, but the captain had magical sight

光芒虽已消散，但天将拥有神目。

He could see everything that had just happened

他能看清刚才发生的一切。

" Interesting," said the captain

"有意思，"天将说。

旁白 neutral

" Well," said the Jade Emperor when the captain returned

"如何？"天将回来后，玉皇大帝问道。

" What caused the light?"

"那道光是从何而来的？"

旁白 neutral

" It was a monkey," said the captain

"是一只猴子，"天将说。

旁白 neutral

" A monkey?" asked the Jade Emperor

"猴子？"玉皇大帝问。

旁白 neutral

" Yes," said the captain

"是的，"天将说。

旁白 neutral

" He's on the Fruit and Flower Mountain, down on Earth."

"他在下界的花果山上。"

旁白 neutral

" There had been a rock on the mountain."

"山上原有一块石头。"

旁白 neutral

" The monkey came from the rock."

"那猴子就是从石头里出来的。"

旁白 neutral

" The light shone from the monkey's eyes."

"那光正是从他的眼睛里射出来的。"

The Emperor thought for a moment, and then shrugged

皇帝沉思片刻，随后耸了耸肩。

" I'm not surprised," he said

"我并不奇怪，"他说。

" Amazing things happen when heaven and earth work together."

"天地相合，自有奇迹。"

As time passed, Monkey learned to walk, run and climb

随着时光流逝，猴子学会了走路、奔跑和攀爬。

He drank from streams and ate grasses and leaves

他饮山涧之水，以草叶为食。

He gathered fruit and explored caves and mountaintops

他采摘果子，探索洞穴与山巅。

He became friends with all the other monkeys and apes

他与众多猴子和猿猴成为了朋友。

At night, he slept under a cliff

夜里，他在崖壁下安眠。

One very hot morning, all the monkeys and apes were playing in the shade

一个酷热的清晨，猴子们和猿猴们都在树荫下嬉戏玩耍。

" It is so hot today," cried one monkey

"今天真是太热了，"一只猴子叫道。

" Let's play in the stream."

"去小溪里玩吧。"

" Good idea," said another monkey

"好主意，"另一只猴子说。

The monkeys and apes ran to the stream

猴子们和猿猴们纷纷跑向溪边。

The water rolled and bounced over the rocks

溪水在石头上翻涌跳跃。

旁白 neutral

The monkeys jumped into the cool water

猴子们纷纷跳入清凉的水中。

旁白 neutral

Everyone splashed and played

大家泼水嬉戏，玩得不亦乐乎。

After a few minutes, one monkey scratched her head

过了一会儿，一只猴子挠了挠脑袋。

" We all love this stream," she said

"我们都喜爱这条溪流，"她说。

旁白 neutral

" We drink from it."

"我们喝它的水。"

旁白 neutral

" We swim in it."

"我们在里面游泳。"

旁白 neutral

" We know that it flows all the way to the ocean."

"我们知道它一直流向大海。"

旁白 neutral

" But does anyone know where the stream begins?"

"但有谁知道这溪流的源头在哪里吗？"

旁白 neutral

They all looked at one another and shook their heads

大家面面相觑，纷纷摇头。

" We have nothing to do today," the monkey continued

"我们今天闲来无事，"那只猴子接着说。

旁白 neutral

" Why don't we follow the stream to find its source?"

"何不顺着溪流去寻找它的源头？"

旁白 neutral

" That sounds like fun," said another monkey

"听起来很有趣，"另一只猴子说。

旁白 neutral

" Let's go," said a third monkey

"走吧，"第三只猴子说。

旁白 neutral

Everyone jumped out of the water

大家纷纷跳出水面。

旁白 neutral

They ran alongside the stream and swung from tree to tree

他们沿着溪流奔跑，在树间荡来荡去。

旁白 neutral

They jumped over rocks and climbed up steep cliffs

他们跳过石头，攀上陡峭的山壁。

旁白 neutral

Higher and higher they went, up the mountain until they reached an enormous waterfall

他们越爬越高，沿着山路一路向上，终于来到一处巨大的瀑布前。

旁白 neutral

Mist filled the air

水雾弥漫，充盈四野。

旁白 neutral

The water crashed down, roaring like thunder

瀑布轰然倾泻而下，声如雷鸣。

旁白 neutral

" I wonder what's behind that waterfall," said one monkey

"我好奇那瀑布后面有什么，"一只猴子说。

旁白 neutral

" Me too," said a second monkey

"我也是，"第二只猴子说。

旁白 neutral

But nobody could jump through it

但谁也无法跳穿瀑布。

旁白 neutral

" Whoever can jump through and come back alive will be our king," said a gibbon

"谁能跳进去再活着回来，就是我们的大王，"一只长臂猿说。

旁白 neutral

" Is anyone brave enough to try?"

"有谁够胆去试试吗？"

旁白 neutral

All the monkeys and apes looked at one another

猴子们和猿猴们面面相觑。

旁白 neutral

They shook their heads

大家纷纷摇头。

旁白 neutral

" I'm not going to try," said a tall monkey

"我可不去，"一只高个猴子说。

旁白 neutral

" Me neither," said a short monkey

"我也不去，"一只矮个猴子说。

旁白 neutral

A voice called out: " I'll do it."

一个声音喊道："我去。"

旁白 neutral

Everyone moved out of the way as the speaker stepped forward

众人纷纷让开，只见说话的那个走上前来。

It was Monkey

正是猴子。

旁白 neutral

" Are you sure?" asked the gibbon

"你确定吗？"长臂猿问道。

旁白 neutral

" It looks dangerous."

"看起来很危险啊。"

旁白 neutral

Monkey laughed

猴子大笑起来。

旁白 neutral

" I'm not afraid of anything."

"我什么都不怕。"

旁白 neutral

" And when I come back, I will be king."

"等我回来，我就是大王。"

旁白 neutral

Monkey took a deep breath and leaped into the waterfall

猴子深吸一口气，纵身跃入瀑布之中。
