Nora opened the freezer and looked inside

" Dad. There's no ice cream!" she complained

“爸爸，没有冰淇淋了！”她抱怨道。

Her father looked up from his computer

她爸爸从电脑前抬起头来。

" Do you want to make some?"

“你想自己做点吗？”

" Homemade ice cream!" Nora cried

“自制冰淇淋！”诺拉喊道。

" Yes! Let's get started!"

Nora helped her father gather all the ingredients

" Okay," Dad said

He was looking at a cookbook

" First we need egg yolks."

Crack! Nora broke some eggs and scooped out the yolks

Dad added sugar

Then he whisked everything together

Next Dad heated milk and vanilla in a pot

Then he slowly poured the liquid into the egg yolks

He put the pot in ice water

他把锅放进冰水里。

" It's cooling fast!" Nora said

" Yep."

Dad took a cold container out of the freezer

爸爸从冷冻室拿出一个冷容器。

" What's that for?" Nora asked

" It's for an ice cream machine," Dad said

“这是给冰淇淋机用的，”爸爸说。

" The machine will churn the mixture for us."

" Cool!" Nora said

“酷！”诺拉说。

Dad showed Nora how to put the container into the machine

爸爸教诺拉如何将容器放进机器里。

He poured in the mixture and Nora added heavy cream

他倒入了混合液，诺拉则加入了浓奶油。

Then they turned on the machine

Twenty minutes later Dad turned it off

He covered the container and put it back into the freezer

" Here comes the hard part," Dad said

" So let's try to stay busy."

Dad and Nora played cards

They kicked a soccer ball around

They went for a long bike ride through the neighborhood

Back at home Dad opened the freezer

Nora stood behind him on tiptoes

He scooped some ice cream and they tasted it

" Mmm," Nora said, grinning

" I'm glad there was no ice cream in the freezer

Homemade ice cream is much better!"
