When Zann arrived at the swamp, Darb was waiting. So was Gliss

Zann was still mad at Gliss. But he tried not to let those feelings show

" Hi, Gliss." Zann smiled back briefly. Then he turned toward Darb

“嗨，格丽丝。” 赞恩也短暂地回以微笑。然后转向达布。

" I need a favor. Can you watch Zing for a few hours?"

“我需要你帮个忙。你能帮我照看辛格几个小时吗？”

" Sure," Darb said." Why? What's up?"

“当然可以，”达布说。“怎么了？有什么事吗？”

" Right before the trouble with Morb started, I told Professor Nurt I'd do some extra credit work for Food and Drink Creation class," Zann said

“就在莫布带来的麻烦开始之前，我跟努尔特教授说过，我会为饮食创造课做些额外加分的作业。”赞恩说。

" I need to finish it before school starts tomorrow."

Gliss looked surprised." I doubt Professor Nurt will care about that," she said

" Everyone knows you've been kind of busy."

Zann forced a laugh." I know. But I still want to do it."

" Wow." Darb grinned." Saving Magica must have changed you, Zann

“哇。”达布咧嘴笑了，“拯救魔法世界肯定改变你了，赞恩。

You never cared that much about schoolwork before."

" Ha-ha, very funny." Zann was nervous. Were his friends suspicious?

“哈哈，真好笑。”赞恩很紧张。他的朋友们是不是起疑心了？

Maybe he should have thought of a different cover story

也许他该想个不一样的借口。

" Anyway, it will be easier to create puffberry soufflés without Zing there trying to eat them."

“不管怎样，没有辛格在那儿偷吃，做泡芙莓蛋奶酥会容易些。”

" No problem." Darb gave Zing a pat." We'll have fun. Right, buddy?"

“没问题。”达布拍了拍辛格。“我们会玩得开心的。对吧，伙计？”

Usually Zing loved spending time with Darb

But today he ignored him, staying pressed against Zann's leg

" What's wrong with him?" Gliss wondered

" Nothing." Zann gave Zing a nudge." Go with Darb, boy."

“没什么。”赞恩轻轻推了推辛格。“去吧，跟达布走，小家伙。”

The dragon whined and emitted a puff of smoke

小龙呜咽着，喷出一股烟。

Zing refused to leave Zann's side even when Darb called him

即使达布叫它，辛格也不肯离开赞恩身边。

Finally Zann snapped his fingers and created a dragon harness

最后赞恩打了个响指，变出了一副龙牵绳。

He slipped it onto Zing's scaly body and then handed the leash to Darb

他把它套到辛格长满鳞片的身上，然后把牵绳递给了达布。

" I'm sure he'll be fine once I'm gone

“我肯定等我一走它就会好的。

He's just annoyed because he knows he'll be missing all those soufflés."

Darb chuckled." You're probably right." But he looked concerned as he glanced at Zing

Zann didn't want to give his friends the chance to ask any more questions

" Thanks," he said." See you in a few hours." He zapped home

Soon he was stepping out of his room with his backpack strapped onto his shoulders

He reached into his pocket to make sure the message stone was there

As he touched its cool, hard surface, he shivered. What was he getting himself into?

After taking one last look around the house, Zann hurried outside

It wasn't far, and he would need all his energy for navigating the vortex

Just as he reached the clearing, the wormhole let out a magical burp that rattled the branches of nearby trees and made Zann jump

" Yes," he whispered." I have to do it."

Taking a deep breath, Zann stepped toward the wormhole

Its ragged mouth opened wider, and its chaotic energy reached out and began to suck him in

虫洞裂口般的入口张得更大了，混沌的能量向外探出，开始把他往里吸。

" Zann!" someone shouted. It was Perda, and she sounded angry

“赞恩！”有人喊道。是珀达，她的声音听上去很生气。

" You didn't think you really tricked me with that pathetic story, did you?"

“你不会真以为那个可怜兮兮的故事能骗过我吧？”

Zann tried to pull away from the wormhole. But its pull was too strong

赞恩想挣脱虫洞的吸力，但那股力量太强了。

" Perda, no! You have to get back!"

“珀达，别过来！你退后！”

" No way." Perda rubbed her fingers together with one hand while she grabbed Zann's wrist with the other

“没门。”珀达一只手捻着手指，另一只手抓住了赞恩的手腕。

A second later a glowing band of energy appeared, linking their wrists together

下一秒，一条发光的能量带出现，将他们的手腕连在了一起。

" A Shackle spell?" Zann blurted out." Where'd you learn to do that?"

“镣铐咒？”赞恩脱口而出。“你从哪学会这个的？”

" I'm full of surprises." She smirked, tugging at the magical shackles to test them." Now you can't leave me behind!"

“我让人惊喜的地方多着呢。”她得意地一笑，拽了拽魔法镣铐试了试。“现在你别想丢下我了！”

Zann gritted his teeth, trying again to escape the wormhole's pull

赞恩咬紧牙关，再次试图挣脱虫洞的吸力。

But it was no use. It was all he could do to stay where he was

但根本没用。他能勉强待在原地就很不容易了。

He had to convince Perda to back off before she got sucked in too!

他必须在珀达也被吸进去之前说服她退后！

" Listen," he said." I didn't want to lie to you, but — "

" Then why did you?" she shot back

" Perda, I — " Before he could go on, Gliss burst into view

“珀达，我——”他还没来得及说下去，格丽丝就突然出现在眼前。

" Oh no!" she cried as she saw the wormhole

“哦不！”她看到虫洞时叫了起来。

旁白 neutral

" What are you two doing? Are you crazy?"

“你们两个在干什么？疯了吗？”

旁白 neutral

Zann glared at Perda." Did you tell everyone I was here?"

赞恩瞪着珀达。“你是不是告诉大家我在这儿了？”

旁白 neutral

" I didn't tell anyone," Perda said." I don't know what she's doing here."

“我没告诉任何人，”珀达说。“我不知道她怎么来了。”

旁白 neutral

" I zapped to your house, Zann." Gliss took a step closer while keeping a wary eye on the wormhole

“我传送到了你家，赞恩。”格丽丝走近一步，同时警惕地看着虫洞。

" I wanted to talk to you. I saw you rushing off down the street, so I followed

“我想和你谈谈。我看到你沿着街跑，就跟过来了。

Now I'm glad I did. You can't do this — it's way too dangerous!"

" Too late," Perda said." We're going, and you can't stop us!"

Gliss frowned." Oh yeah?" She stepped forward and grabbed Perda's free arm, trying to drag her back." Don't be stupid!"

格丽丝皱起眉头。“哦，是吗？”她上前抓住珀达空着的手臂，想把她拽回来。“别傻了！”

" Get back!" Zann was still struggling to hold his position

“退回去！”赞恩还在努力稳住身形。

旁白 neutral

" The wormhole's energy is too strong. You'll get sucked in with us!"

“虫洞的能量太强了。你会和我们一起被吸进去的！”

旁白 neutral

Just then he heard a familiar whistle. Zing!

就在这时，他听到了一声熟悉的哨声。辛格！

The dragon flew at Zann with a blast of irritated flame. His harness was trailing behind him

小龙朝赞恩飞来，喷出一股恼怒的火焰。他的背带在身后飘荡着。

" Zing, no!" Perda exclaimed, ducking her head to avoid the fire

“辛格，不要！”珀达喊道，连忙低下头躲避火焰。

旁白 neutral

" Zing! Where are you going?" Darb called, rushing into sight

“辛格！你去哪儿？”达布喊着，冲进了视线。

旁白 neutral

He gasped when he saw what was happening

看到眼前的情景，他倒吸了一口凉气。

" Hurry!" Gliss called to Darb." Help me pull Zann and Perda out!"

“快！”格丽丝对达布喊道。“帮我把赞恩和珀达拉出来！”

旁白 neutral

Darb jumped forward, grabbing onto Gliss. At the same time, Zing latched onto Zann's backpack with his claws

达布跳上前去，抓住了格丽丝。与此同时，辛格用爪子钩住了赞恩的背包。

Zann felt the wormhole's hold on him loosen slightly

赞恩感到虫洞对他的吸力稍稍松了一些。

" Fine, I give up!" Zann called." Everyone pull back together, and — "

“好吧，我认输！”赞恩喊道。“大家一起往后拉，然后——”

Whoosh! Energy suddenly expanded and contracted, sucking the whole group into the wormhole's gaping mouth

呼——！能量猛然膨胀又收缩，把所有人吸进了虫洞张开的大口里。
