Zann tiptoed through a small cavern and into another tunnel

Zann蹑手蹑脚地穿过一个小洞穴，进入另一条隧道。

" I think the intersection is just ahead," he whispered to Zing

“我觉得交叉路口就在前面，”他对Zing轻声道。

Zing breathed out a small flame, allowing Zann to see a little farther than the crawler's feeble glow permitted

Zing吐出一小团火焰，让Zann得以看得比爬虫那微弱的萤光所允许的距离更远一些。

There was no intersection — just a blank stone wall

那里没有交叉路口——只有一堵空白的石墙。

" Drat," Zann muttered

“真讨厌，”Zann咕哝着。

He retraced his steps and tried a different tunnel

他沿原路返回，试了另一条隧道。

Why hadn't he paid more attention when Tok was leading them out earlier?

" Never mind," Zann whispered. At least he'd managed to sneak away undetected

Or had he? Zann froze as he heard a soft scraping sound behind him

It echoed down the tunnel, barely louder than a heartbeat

" Did you hear that?" he whispered to Zing

“你听到了吗？”他小声对Zing说。

But apparently Zing hadn't heard the sound

但Zing显然没听到那声音。

The dragon was staring at Zann's crawler hungrily

那条龙正饥饿地盯着扎恩的爬行者。

Zann sighed. Being in the creepy cave was making him jumpy

扎恩叹了口气。待在这个阴森洞穴里，他变得紧张兮兮的。

The sound had probably been nothing more than a cave creature or a stray burst of magic energy

那声音大概不过是只洞穴生物，或是一股逸散的魔法能量。

Zann kept moving, watching for anything that looked familiar

Zann froze. Was that a footstep?

扎恩僵住了。那是脚步声吗？

" Quiet!" he hissed, dragging Zing into a crevasse in the wall

“安静！”他嘘了一声，把Zing拖进墙上的裂缝。

He pressed both hands over his crawler, trying to block its light

他用双手捂住爬行者，想挡住它的光。

Zing's breath felt hot on Zann's leg, but Zann didn't dare move

Zing的呼吸热乎乎地喷在扎恩的腿上，但扎恩不敢动。

The footsteps came closer. Soon Zann could hear the sound of breathing

脚步声越来越近。很快扎恩都能听到呼吸声了。

He pressed himself back against the stone and watched

他将自己紧紧靠在石头上，观察着。

A figure passed, lit only by the soft glow of the crawler perched on its shoulder

一个身影走过，只有它肩上栖息的爬行者发出的柔光照亮着。

" Perda!" Zann blurted out

"佩尔达！" 扎恩脱口而出。

Perda jumped in surprise and spun to face him." Zann! I was afraid I'd lost you."

佩尔达惊得跳了起来，转过身面对他。"扎恩！我还以为我跟丢你了。"

Zann frowned." You were following me?"

扎恩皱起了眉头。"你在跟踪我？"

旁白 neutral

" Of course." Perda laughed." You didn't think you could sneak off and have another adventure without me, did you?"

"当然。" 佩尔达笑了。"你不会以为能偷偷溜去再冒险一次，却不带上我吧？"

" But I was sure nobody saw me leave," said Zann

"但我确定没人看见我离开。" 扎恩说。

旁白 neutral

" You're right. I didn't notice you were gone for a few minutes

"你说得对。我过了好几分钟才注意到你不见了。"

I used my crawler to track you."

我用我的爬行者追踪到了你们。”

Perda pointed to her crawler, which was keeping a wary eye on Zing

佩尔达指了指她的爬行者，它正警惕地盯着辛。

" I'd already noticed it gets more and more nervous the closer we are to Zing

All I had to do was pay attention to how deeply its claws were digging into my shoulder to guess how close you were."

Zann rolled his eyes. At the same time, he had to admire Perda's cleverness

Besides, maybe you can figure out a way to delay the Sealing spell until I'm finished."

Zann was stunned." Venna took the relics? Why?"

" She doesn't think it's right to seal off the Cave and all the powerful magic in the relics

She thinks we should take some of the relics back to First City

That way the Red Council can use them in case a threat like Morb ever comes along again."

" Wow." Zann knew how persuasive Venna could be." Does anyone agree with her?"

" A few people." Perda shrugged." Not Boz and Teplo, though

They'll all be arguing about it for a long time."

" Good," Zann said." That will give me enough time to find the message chamber."

" You mean it'll give us enough time," Perda said

" If you don't let me come, you'll never get there

You've been going the wrong way for the past ten minutes

Fortunately I remember how to get there

It's back this way." Perda quickly headed down the tunnel

Zann hurried to keep up with her. He was still annoyed that she'd followed him

But another part of him was glad to have her help

Half an hour later, they stepped into the message chamber

" Hurry," Perda urged." Who knows how long we have until they start the Sealing spell

Then we'll be trapped in here forever."

Zann's stone was still burning hot. He took a deep breath and plugged it into the wall

" Oh!" he gasped as two figures appeared before him

“哦！”当两个人影出现在他面前时，他倒吸了一口气。

" Is that your parents?" Perda whispered

“那是你父母吗？”佩尔达低声说。

Zann just nodded, taking in the sight

扎恩只是点了点头，凝视着眼前的一切。

" Greetings, Wyssa," his father's familiar voice said." We received your last message."

“你好，威莎，”父亲熟悉的声音说道，“我们收到了你最后一条消息。”

" We accept your terms," Zann's mother added." We're very eager to locate World X

“我们接受你的条件，”扎恩的母亲补充道，“我们非常渴望找到X世界。

If you're sure you can lead us there, we'll pay your fee."

如果你确定能带我们去那里，我们会支付你的费用。”

Zann's father nodded." We've just returned from the Cave of the Unknown and have one more short trip to make. We'll contact you when we return."

扎恩的父亲点了点头。“我们刚从未知之穴回来，还要再走一趟短途。等我们回来再联系你。”

Zann was so overwhelmed he could barely move

扎恩激动得几乎不能动弹。

His parents' holograms flickered out and then reappeared

他父母的全息影像闪灭了一下，然后又重新出现。

" Greetings, Wyssa..." the message began again

“你好，威莎……”留言又从头开始了。

" Wow," Perda said." I — ouch!" She poked her crawler. It was trembling

“哇，”佩尔达说，“我——哎哟！”她戳了戳她的爬行者，它在发抖。

Zann realized his own crawler was digging its claws into his shoulder

扎恩意识到自己的爬行者正把爪子抠进他的肩膀里。

" What's the matter with the crawlers?" he mumbled, still watching his parents

“爬行者们怎么了？”他咕哝着，目光还停留在父母身上。

" They seem nervous," said Perda." And Zing isn't even trying to eat them right now."

“它们看起来很紧张，”佩尔达说，“而且Zing这会儿甚至都不想吃了它们。”

The entire chamber shuddered. The message stone popped out of the wall, cutting off the hologram

整个房间都震颤起来。信息石从墙上弹了出来，切断了全息影像。

" Uh-oh," Perda said." Did you feel that?

“哦哦，”佩尔达说，“你感觉到了吗？

旁白 neutral

The Magic Masters must be starting the Sealing spell. We have to get out of here!"

魔法大师们肯定在启动封印咒了。我们得离开这儿！”

Zann didn't want to leave. He wanted to plug the stone back in and watch his parents' message again and again

扎恩不想走。他想把石头插回去，一遍又一遍地看父母的留言。

There was another rumble. Zing let out a squeak. Zann's crawler moaned with fear

又是一阵轰隆声。Zing发出一声尖叫。扎恩的爬行者害怕地呻吟起来。

" Okay, let's go," Zann said

“好吧，我们走。”扎恩说。

旁白 neutral

With Zing flying ahead of her, Perda ran for the exit

Zing飞在前面，佩尔达跑向出口。

旁白 neutral

Zann started to follow. Suddenly he paused

扎恩正要跟上，突然停住了。

旁白 neutral

Turning, he raced over and grabbed the message stone off the floor

他转过身，跑过去，从地上抓起信息石。

旁白 neutral

Then he sprinted after Zing and Perda

然后朝Zing和佩尔达飞奔而去。
