to lock us up!" Perda thought.

Perda didn't want to see how creatively she might " punish "

Zann—and maybe his friends too.

Perda caught Zira smirking. But the woman quickly arranged

her face into a concerned expression.

" Oh, dear!" she exclaimed

" To think we've had a murderer in our midst! He certainly had us all fooled!"

“真没想到我们中间居然有个杀人犯！他肯定把我们都骗了！”

" What? I didn't kill anyone!" Zann cried. He gulped." At least... not on purpose!"

A gasp went up around the room, and Perda winced

" Oh, Zann," she thought

into the vortex. But it wasn't your fault!"

" Hold on." Mellis stepped out from behind Krub

his arm. "Get Zing," she hissed at him.

She looked toward Mellis, but Krub stood between them

message had reached her.

A few lights glowed from nearby farmhouses, and a brighter

glow came from the village on the horizon.

" Whew!" Zann said, releasing Zing." That was close."

Perda glanced toward the village

" I can't believe I had to leave Mellis behind again," she said, feeling miserable

" She seemed really scared that we were leaving without her."

" Mellis is so much braver now than she was when we arrived," she said thoughtfully

" It does seem strange that she'd scream out in fear like that." She shrugged

He whistled for Zing, and then grabbed Perda's hand." Zap!"

They landed in a cold stream in a dark, hilly area

unfamiliar landscape.

Zann stepped out of the stream and magically dried

his shoes and pants.

" Sorry about that." He grinned sheepishly

" Maybe you should do the next zap. If we try, we might

be able to reach the mines by morning."

" You want to go to the wormhole?" Perda said

"But we can't leave Mellis behind!"

" She told us she didn't want to leave Terrica," Zann said

" I doubt she's changed her mind

But we don't really have a choice now that everyone thinks

I murdered that man." He looked sad.

" I doubt Vilkor would lift a finger to stop Zira

But Zann's right. He's in danger if we stay."

She sighed, staring at the rushing stream." We're not

safe here anymore," she said.

" But promise me we'll tell your parents and Boz what happened

here as soon as we get back to Magica, okay?"

" Absolutely!" Zann said." I bet they can help us

figure out how to help Mellis.

Besides, my parents will definitely want to visit this world."

Perda slowly nodded." Grab Zing again, and let's keep going."

They reached the wormhole just as the sun rose

In the distance they heard the sounds of miners

getting ready to start the day's work.

anyone to see us."

Perda nodded and looked around

Terrica was a beautiful world now that it was

filling up with magic.

The trees were lush, and birds fluttered everywhere

filling the air with their songs.

" I'd like to come back here sometime," she said

" It will become even more beautiful as the magic spreads

Maybe your parents will let us join their expedition."

"Come on, Zing, we're going home."

He whistled, and the dragon joined them

accidentally separated in the vortex.

Then she glanced at Zann

" Ready to go?" she asked
