Krub and the goon had slept late that morning

After a leisurely breakfast, Krub had zapped them all to this grassy hillside

Since then Krub and the goon had been drinking from their flasks again

Finally Krub took an extra-long swig from his flask and let out a loud burp

Zann shuffled over. The two men grabbed him

Krub rubbed his free hand against his leg." Zap!"

They landed in a swampy area. The air was humid

and streams and puddles were everywhere.

" We're almost there." The goon peered into the thick, dripping trees

" The mines are a short hike from here."

He and Krub set off. Zann shuffled after them, but the shackles

on his legs made it difficult to walk.

" Hey, wait up!" he called

Krub frowned." Oh, right."

He snapped his fingers and muttered something under his breath

The shackles on Zann's legs disappeared

赞恩腿上的镣铐消失了。

The goon looked impressed." How'd you do that?"

" Never mind," Krub said." Let's go."

Zann didn't need Krub to tell him what had happened

He guessed that Zira had put a password on her Shackle spell

That would allow anyone who knew the password to remove

or replace the shackles.

" Zira probably heard me and Perda telling Mellis about magical

passwords," Zann thought.

" I wish I'd heard the password Zira put on my shackles."

He was sure Krub would put the shackles back on at night

They entered a large clearing

Several people were hurrying in and out of a cave, while others

sorted through piles of rocks and dirt.

" I found flint," a man called out." Let's go back in for more!"

" Flint?" Zann said." Why are they so excited to find that?"

Krub shot him a surprised look." To make fire, of course

It's a lot faster than rubbing sticks together."

" Why are we bothering with this, anyway?" The goon scratched his head

" Can't we just have Zira and Vilkor make fire now?" He shrugged

“就不能现在让齐拉和维尔科用魔法生火吗？”他耸了耸肩。

" We might even be able to do it ourselves if we really try."

“要是我们努努力，说不定自己都能行。”

Krub looked intrigued." Zira made magic sound too difficult

for anyone except her.

But I can transport us long distances and create food

How can making fire be that much harder?"

" Let's try!" The goon rubbed his meaty hands together

and then pointed at the ground. "Fire!"

A wisp of smoke appeared briefly. Zann rolled his eyes

They were out of the swamp, but the ground here was still pretty moist

Krub tried next. He created friction and then held out his hand." Fire!"

A small fireball appeared in his hand. Krub's eyes

widened, and his jaw dropped.

But as the fireball got a little larger, he quickly tossed it away

" Ouch!" He shook his hand." It burned me!"

Zann tried not to laugh. Meanwhile the men's shouts

were attracting attention.

Several miners came over when the goon set a small shrub on fire

" What's going on?" a miner asked." Did you do that?"

The goon tried to stamp out the burning bush." None of your business!"

" Does this have something to do with the way plants are

growing and the land is thriving?" a woman asked.

Another miner nodded." It's strange but also wonderful!

My orchard was barren until a few days ago. Now I have

more fruit than my family can eat!"

" It's magic!" the goon blurted out. He went on

to tell the miners everything.

Krub looked angry at first. But when the miners stared

at him in awe, he couldn't resist showing off.

旁白 neutral

" I can do magic too!" He quickly rubbed a hand on his side

and then waved his arms. "Drink for everyone!"

Several flasks appeared. The miners grabbed

them eagerly, tasting the contents.

旁白 neutral

" This is a miracle!" one cried." Will you show us how to do it?"

“这真是个奇迹！”一个人喊道。“你会教我们怎么做吗？”

" No." Krub frowned." And don't try to do magic on your own

The miners didn't look intimidated by the warning

Already some were waving their hands around, trying

to imitate what Krub had done.

" They didn't notice Krub creating friction," Zann thought

" They won't be able to do magic until they figure that out."

He was tempted to shout out the truth. After all

magic should belong to everyone.

But then he glanced down at his shackled hands

" Still, a lot of the trees and stuff look so familiar

The goon grabbed his arm." Time to get to work."

Zann had no choice but to stumble after him

As the goon dragged him past a crooked tree surrounded by a tangle

of brush, Zann noticed something in the clearing beyond.

Was it a cloud of those biting insects coming for him?

Then he blinked in surprise. No, it wasn't insects

It was a shimmer in the air. Could it be... a wormhole?
