Zann could see that Perda was feeling frustrated with Vilkor

" I don't know why she didn't tell him that we're from Magica

not Terrica," Zann thought.

" But I'm sure she had a good reason."

“但我相信她一定有她的道理。”

Perda tried once again to convince Vilkor that he didn't need a well anymore

珀达再次试图说服维尔科，他已经不再需要水井了。

Zann decided it was easier to show him how magic worked than to try to explain it

赞恩觉得，与其费口舌解释，不如直接让他看看魔法是怎么运作的。

" Watch this," Zann said. He rubbed his hands on his legs to create plenty of friction

“看好了。”赞恩说着，用手在腿上搓了搓，制造出足够的摩擦力。

Then he used an Enlarging spell to double the size of the pond in front of them

接着，他施了个放大咒，让面前的池塘扩大了一倍。

Next Zann turned the water blue and created a small wooden dock and a rowboat

然后赞恩把水变成了蓝色，又变出一个小木码头和一条划艇。

He glanced at Vilkor. The man's jaw had dropped in astonishment

他瞥了维尔科一眼。那人惊得下巴都快掉下来了。

" How did you do that?" Vilkor asked, sinking onto a bench

as if he didn't trust his legs to hold him upright.

" Easy. I used magic." Zann rubbed his hands together and then

added an elaborate fountain to the middle of the pond.

He shot a look toward Perda, wondering what she thought of his efforts

他瞥了珀达一眼，想知道她对他这番努力有什么看法。

" This cannot be happening." Vilkor glared at Zann suspiciously

"I must be asleep and dreaming."

Zann added a pretty shrub to the edge of the pond

" Anyone can do this, now that Terrica has magic."

“既然特里卡有了魔法，任何人都可以做到。”

Thinking about Mellis' failure to create water, he added," At least we

think so. Why don't you give it a try?"

" Maybe he shouldn't," Perda whispered." The magic energy seems

kind of unpredictable so far, and besides—"

" No, it's fine," Zann assured her." I didn't have any trouble

with the spells I just did."

旁白 neutral

He glanced proudly at the lovely pond

他骄傲地瞥了一眼那可爱的池塘。

Vilkor stood, looking intrigued." What do I need to do?" he asked cautiously

维尔科站了起来，看上去很感兴趣。“我需要做什么？”他谨慎地问。

Zann quickly explained about friction and focusing words

and the other basics of creating items.

" Go ahead," he finished." Try to create something, like a glass of water."

Vilkor still looked suspicious. But he followed Zann's instructions

rubbing his hands together.

" Mmm... water," he said

A rough pottery cup of water appeared in his hand. The man was

so shocked, he nearly dropped it.

" It worked!" Vilkor exclaimed." Can it really be true? Can I create anything I want?"

“成功了！”维尔科惊叹道。“这难道是真的吗？我想要什么就能创造什么吗？”

" Almost anything," Perda said." You can't create people or animals

“几乎任何东西，”珀达说。“你不能创造人或动物。”

And you shouldn't create anything that might hurt others or..."

Vilkor was already rubbing his hands together again

"Wheel of fine cheese!" he shouted.

A large chunk of cheese landed with a thump in front of him

一大块奶酪砰地一声落在他面前。

After that, Vilkor created a pair of silk pants for himself

along with a matching hat.

" Oh," he said, looking disappointed." I wanted a feather

in the hatband, but it's not there."

" Slow down," Zann said with a chuckle

“别着急，”赞恩轻声笑着说。

" You're new to this, and your magic energy might be running low

Don't worry. It'll return after a short rest."

He noticed that Perda was watching Mellis and looking worried

他注意到珀达正看着梅莉丝，神情担忧。

" Mellis still looks pale," Perda said." All that magic

energy might have made her ill.

旁白 neutral

Maybe we should take her to see Zira."

也许我们该带她去找齐拉看看。”

旁白 neutral

" Zira?" Vilkor stopped playing with his new hat

“齐拉？”维尔科停下摆弄新帽子的手。

旁白 neutral

" No! I don't want her to know what's going on here."

“不行！我不想让她知道这里发生的事。”

旁白 neutral

" What do you mean?" Zann asked

“你这话什么意思？”赞恩问道。

旁白 neutral

Vilkor stroked his new silk pants." This special magic thing

is on my land," he said.

旁白 neutral

" I don't want anyone else to know about it until I've figured

out how best to, er, deal with it."

旁白 neutral

" It's okay," Mellis said." I'm feeling better already."

“没事，”梅莉丝说。“我已经感觉好多了。”

" Hear that? She's fine." Suddenly Vilkor gasped

"What is that thing?" he cried in alarm.

Zann spun around, thinking about the rock trompers

Mellis had told them about.

And who knew what other wild, dangerous creatures might be in this world?

But all he saw was Zing

Until now, the little dragon had been resting in the shade

of the flowers that had grown up around him.

He'd finally stood up and walked to the bank of the pond

" Oops," Zann whispered, realizing that they'd forgotten

to refresh the chupo disguise.

But that was no big deal now, he realized. He rubbed a hand against his side

He had no idea what a chupo looked like, but he did his best

He used a Visual Confusion spell to make Zing look like the mud lizards he and

Darb used to search for in the swamps of Magica when they were little kids.

Vilkor blinked, looking more startled than ever." What's happening?" he said

Mellis laughed and glanced at Zing. She really did look stronger now

梅莉丝笑了起来，瞥了一眼小辛。她现在看起来确实精神多了。

The color had returned to her cheeks, and her eyes

were bright. She snapped her fingers.

" Chupo," she whispered just loudly enough for Zann and Perda to hear her

“球波，”她轻声说道，声音刚好能让赞恩和珀达听见。

The Visual Confusion spell shifted

视觉混淆咒发生了变化。

Now Zing looked brown and furry, with a pair of curved

fangs emerging from a blunt snout.

" See, Uncle?" Mellis said." It's just a chupo

“你看，叔叔？”梅莉丝说，“这只是只球波呀。

You're probably a little light-headed from doing all that magic

可能是刚才施了那么多魔法，你有点头晕了。

It's not surprising if you're imagining things."

" Hmm." Vilkor looked suspicious again

“嗯。”维尔科看上去又起了疑心。

Just then he noticed a plump purple fruit hanging from a nearby tree

就在这时，他注意到旁边一棵树上挂着一颗饱满的紫色果实。

" Would you look at that!" he exclaimed." I thought

that tree would never bear fruit.

旁白 neutral

And the fruit is so large! I can charge a premium for those

at the village market . . ."

旁白 neutral

He was still muttering with delight as he rushed over

to pick the fruit.

旁白 neutral

" Are you sure you don't want to see Zira, just

in case?" Perda asked Mellis.

旁白 neutral

Mellis shook her head." I'm feeling better and better," she said

梅莉丝摇了摇头。“我感觉越来越好了，”她说。

" Besides, I don't really trust Zira — or her right-hand man, either."

“而且，我不太信任齐拉——也不信任她那个副手。”

Zann wasn't sure what she meant by that. Before he could

ask, though, Zira strode into view.

" What in Terrica is going on here?" she asked
