" Zeus' champion is named Heracles?" Brody said as the crowd in the agora cheered

" That's weird. His name sounds almost like ' Hercules.'"

A shiver went through Brody as he glanced at Hera

Brody almost expected real fire to shoot out of her eyes — sort of like Ares' hair

" I still don't understand." Brody turned to face Julia

" If that's Hercules, why did Zeus just call him Heracles? Did Alcides change his name again later?"

" No.' Heracles' is the way the Greeks say the name," Julia explained

"'Hercules' is the way the ancient Romans said it."

" Everyone on TV says ' Hercules' too," Brody said

" Why can't they all call him the same thing?"

Markos looked troubled." So you know of Zeus' champion?" he asked slowly." From the future?"

" Of course." Julia paced back and forth on the tiny roof

" He's the most famous ancient hero of all time! This changes everything!"

" What do you mean?" Brody was still watching Heracles

The muscular youth was moving through the crowd, shaking hands and smiling at people

" I mean..." Julia stopped pacing. She glanced around to make sure nobody was looking up at them, and then stepped closer to the two boys

When she spoke again, her voice was low and urgent

" Yes," Julia said grimly." And I bet Hera knows it too. Maybe she's jealous of the other woman."

" You up there!" a voice interrupted from below." Mortal children! Where is Hermes?"

Brody glanced over the edge of the roof

Apollo and Artemis were looking up at them

" We don't know where he is," Brody told the two gods

" He flew off when we got here."

" Well, we need to find him." Apollo vaulted up onto the roof, landing lightly beside Brody. He peered out at the crowd

" Yes, and quickly," Artemis added, joining her brother

" This Heracles is much more impressive than we expected

Perhaps Hermes can help us figure out how to defeat him."

Brody was glad that the gods also seemed worried about Heracles

At least they realized it would be nearly impossible to beat Zeus' mighty-looking champion

至少他们明白了，想打败宙斯那位看起来威武不凡的冠军，几乎是不可能的事。

" I see Hermes!" Artemis pointed with her bow

Brody caught a glimpse of Hermes hovering above the crowd, halfway across the agora

Then the messenger god dropped down into the crowd and was lost from view

" Hurry, sister. Let's catch him before he disappears."

Apollo leaped down from the roof as if it were no higher than a step

Artemis followed. As she did, the end of her bow hit Julia on the shoulder

" Oh!" Julia cried, losing her balance

Brody gasped. Julia was falling off the roof!

" Julia!" He leaped forward, but he was too far away to grab her

He looked down, expecting to see Julia sprawled on the ground below

Instead he saw Heracles holding her in his strong arms

" There you go, miss." Heracles carefully set Julia on her feet

" Thanks," Julia said breathlessly. She gazed up at Heracles

" How did you catch me so fast? You probably saved me from a broken leg or something even worse."

" You're welcome." Heracles smiled." I was happy to help

This crowd is quite something, isn't it? Zeus loves a big spectacle."

Brody swung down from the roof and landed beside Julia

布罗迪从屋顶荡下来，落在朱莉娅身旁。

" Okay, thanks, dude," he said loudly to Heracles

"好了，谢了，伙计。"他大声对赫拉克勒斯说。

" We should probably be going now." He grabbed Julia's arm and tried to drag her away

"我们大概该走了。"他抓住朱莉娅的胳膊，想把她拽走。

But she snatched her arm back." Do you mind, Brody?" she said." I'm trying to have a conversation here."

Markos had jumped off the roof too. He was staring at Heracles and looking almost as dazed as Julia

" You must be one of the other athletes," Heracles said to Brody with a friendly smile

" That's right," Markos put in before Brody could answer

" He's Hermes' hero. His name is Brody."

" Nice to meet you, Brody," Heracles said

" What's your favorite event in the Games?

I can't decide, but I think the pentathlon — "

" Heracles, my boy!" Zeus suddenly swooped over and took his champion by the arm

" Come with me. Hades is dying to meet you." He chuckled

" Understand my little joke? Hades is the god of the dead, and he's dying to meet you?"

He dragged Heracles away, and they quickly disappeared into the crowd

Brody glared after Heracles." I don't like that guy," he muttered

Julia looked thoughtful." I don't know," she said slowly." He actually seems... normal."

" Yes," Markos agreed." Well, except for the huge muscles and amazing speed, of course."

Brody scowled." Whatever. I just hope Hermes and the other gods come up with a way to get rid of Heracles before the Games."

" Me too," Julia said." Otherwise he's going to beat everyone — including you, Brody

And then Hermes might not let us leave." She was quiet for a second

" I hope Hera doesn't actually send Heracles to Tartarus though

Remember how she was threatening to do that?"

" She can send him to the moon, as far as I'm concerned," Brody retorted

" It will make my life easier if I don't have to compete against him!"
