It was Mog! There was a two-headed dog by his side

" What are you doing here?" Mog demanded

" I couldn't sleep," Ben said quickly. He landed in front of Mog

“我睡不着。”本飞快地说，随即降落在莫格面前。

" I was just flying around Monsterville."

“我只是在怪兽镇随便飞飞。”

" Just flying around?" Mog echoed

“只是随便飞飞？”莫格重复道。

He narrowed his eyes and moved closer to Ben." Winnie loves to fly

他眯起眼睛，凑近本。“温妮喜欢飞行，

I bet you're looking for those two missing brooms to impress her!"

我打赌你在找那两把失踪的扫帚，为了讨好她！”

Ben was surprised that Mog had guessed the truth so quickly

本很惊讶莫格这么快就猜中了真相。

He backed away from the big monster

他向后退去，远离了那个大怪物。

" No, I'm just flying around," he repeated

“没有，我就是随便飞飞。”他重复道。

Suddenly Mog smiled." I'm just kidding," he said

莫格突然笑了。“我逗你玩的，”他说。

" I'll tell you a secret, but you have to promise not to tell anyone, not one single monster!"

“我告诉你一个秘密，但你得保证不告诉任何人，一个怪物也不行！”

" Why is Mog being so friendly all of a sudden?" Ben thought

“莫格怎么突然这么友好了？”本想。

He was suspicious, but aloud he said," I won't tell."

他心里很怀疑，但嘴上却说：“我不说。”

" Come closer," said Mog." I have to whisper so no one will hear."

“靠近点儿，”莫格说，“我得小声说，免得被人听见。”

" But there's no one here but us," said Ben

“可这里除了我们没有别人啊。”本说。

" You never know," said Mog, glancing around

“这可说不准。”莫格扫视了一下四周。

" There could be spies on either side of the fence."

“围栏两边都可能有探子。”

Ben hovered so he was at eye level with Mog

本悬停到和莫格视线齐平的位置。

" Closer!" hissed Mog

“再近点！”莫格悄声说。

Ben moved closer

本又靠近了一些。

" I've been looking for the missing brooms too," Mog whispered

“我也一直在找失踪的扫帚，”莫格低声说。

" I think people are stealing them."

“我觉得是人类在偷它们。”

" What?" Ben felt his eyes widen." Why do you think that?"

“什么？”本不由得瞪大了眼睛。“你为什么这么想？”

" I was sneaking around in People Place the other day," said Mog

“前几天我在人类的地方偷偷转悠，”莫格说。

" I saw two brooms on the roof of a house

“我看到一所房子的屋顶上有两把扫帚。

I couldn't climb up to get them, but I could clearly see ' MA ' on the handles."

我爬不上去拿，但我能清楚地看到手柄上有‘MA’两个字。”

Ben peered at Mog in the moonlight. Was he telling the truth?

" Why would people steal the brooms?" asked Ben

" And how could they make them fly?"

" I don't know." Mog shrugged." Maybe it's because the brooms are magic

The people are probably jealous and want to learn how to fly them

And that's why the brooms are crashing all over the place

Ben still didn't trust Mog

" If people did steal the brooms, why did they put them on a roof?

Mog shrugged again." They probably just thought it was a good hiding spot

After all, who would think to look up on a roof?"

" That makes sense," said Ben

" So did you tell Mr. Freaky you saw the brooms?"

" No," said Mog." I didn't want to get in trouble for sneaking around People Place."

He paused and seemed to think for a moment." You're a ghost, though

You could easily fly into People Place and get the brooms back."

Ben looked suspiciously at Mog. Could he really trust this monster?

" Listen," said Mog." If we get those brooms back, we can put them in the broom closet

Then, as long as they don't disappear again, Mr. Freaky will probably change his mind about the Monster Mash dance

Ben thought about this. Mog might be telling the truth

Finally Ben nodded." Okay, I'll do it. Where's the house?"

终于，本点了点头。“好吧，我去。那房子在哪？”

" Awesome," said Mog with a grin

“太棒了，”莫格咧嘴笑着说。

" It's a big house on Main Street. It's only a few blocks from the fence

The house is yellow, and it has a tower. You can't miss it."

Ben took a deep breath." I'll be back soon."

" I'll be waiting right here," whispered Mog as Ben flew off

Ben couldn't believe he was actually flying over the fence and into People Place

On the other side, he looked around

Without any people, the town looked a lot like Monsterville, with schools and stores and parks

Still, Ben knew he couldn't spend too much time looking around

He quickly spotted the yellow house with the tower

He flew over it, but he didn't see any brooms on the roof

" Mog definitely lied to me," thought Ben

There were no brooms from Monster Academy here

Ben was hovering outside a window when he noticed a young boy inside

正当本在一扇窗外悬停时，他注意到了屋里有个小男孩。

The boy was fast asleep in bed, hugging a giant stuffed teddy bear almost as big as Ben

那男孩在床上睡得正香，怀里抱着一只几乎和本一样大的巨型泰迪熊玩偶。

Suddenly there was a loud crashing sound from back by the fence

突然，围栏那边传来一声巨大的碰撞声。

A couple of lights in nearby houses blinked on

附近几栋房子里，有几盏灯忽地亮了起来。

The boy sat bolt upright in bed

男孩从床上一骨碌坐了起来。

He stared directly at Ben and shrieked," Mommy! Daddy! A ghost!"

他直直地盯着本，尖叫道：“妈妈！爸爸！有鬼！”
