The pillar shrank

Soon it was just a little taller than Wukong

He picked it up and swung it around

Back home, the others were amazed by Wukong's new weapon

Nobody will ever attack us again, declared Wukong

The monkeys and apes cheered

猴子们和猿猴们欢呼起来。

They held a big feast that lasted until late at night

Wukong went to bed happy

But as he fell asleep, two spirits grabbed him

He kicked and struggled as the spirits dragged him out of his cave

They walked toward a dark and creepy city

A sign on the entrance gate said, Land of Darkness

The land of darkness? cried Wukong

That's where people go when they die

那是人死后去的地方。

I'm supposed to live forever

我可是要长生不老的。

He yanked his arms free

他猛地挣脱了双臂。

Grow! He cried

变大！他喊道。

His iron bar quickly grew

他的铁棒迅速变大了。

He knocked out the first spirit

他打倒了第一个鬼差。

Crack! He knocked out the second spirit

啪！他打倒了第二个鬼差。

Wukong stomped into the land of darkness

悟空气冲冲地闯进了幽冥之地。

He headed toward the palace of darkness

他朝森罗殿走去。

As he went, he swung his iron bar back and forth

一路上，他不停地挥舞着铁棒。

Demons and ghosts fled

妖魔鬼怪纷纷逃窜。

A tall spirit stepped out of the palace

一个高大的鬼神从殿里走了出来。

What's going on out here? The spirit asked

外面怎么回事？那鬼神问道。

Who are you? Asked Wukong

你是谁？悟空问道。

旁白 neutral

I am the judge of the dead. Said the spirit

我是阎王。那鬼神说。

旁白 neutral

Why are you causing all this trouble?

你为什么要在这里大闹？

旁白 neutral

I want to know why I was brought here. Said Wukong

我想知道为什么把我带到这里。悟空说。

旁白 neutral

Tell me now

现在就告诉我。

旁白 neutral

The judge held up his hands

阎王举起双手。

旁白 neutral

If you were brought here, it means your time on Earth is over

如果你被带到了这里，说明你在世间的阳寿已尽。

Nonsense! yelled Wukong

胡说八道！悟空大喊道。

旁白 neutral

I'm going to live forever!

我要长生不老！

The Judge looked nervous

阎王看起来很紧张。

Let's check the directory, he said

我们查一下生死簿吧，他说。

The directory contains the name and age of every creature on Earth

生死簿上记载着世间每一个生灵的名字和寿命。

It says when each creature will die

上面写着每个生灵什么时候死。

Inside the palace, the Judge opened a large book

在殿内，阎王翻开了一本大书。

What is your name? he asked

你叫什么名字？他问道。

旁白 neutral

Wukong told him

悟空告诉了他。

The judge flipped through the pages

阎王翻了翻书页。

旁白 neutral

Here it is, said the judge

找到了，阎王说。

旁白 neutral

It says, Sun Wukong, born from a stone 300 years ago, died today

上面写着：孙悟空，三百年前由石头所生，今日寿终。

Wukong shook his head

悟空摇了摇头。

旁白 neutral

No, I'm going to live forever

不，我要长生不老。

旁白 neutral

The directory isn't wrong, said the judge

生死簿不会有错的，阎王说。

You'll have to stay here now

你现在必须留在这里了。

Wukong raised his iron bar and glared at the judge

悟空举起铁棒，怒视着阎王。

Give me that book!

把那本书给我！

The judge hesitated

阎王犹豫了。

I can't give it to...

我不能把它给……

旁白 neutral

Now! said Wukong

马上！悟空说。

Shaking, the judge handed the book to Wukong

阎王颤抖着把书递给了悟空。

Wukong plucked two of his hairs and blew on them

悟空拔下两根毫毛，吹了一口气。

They turned into a brush and a jar of ink

它们变成了一支毛笔和一罐墨水。

He drew a line through his name

他把自己的名字划掉了。

旁白 neutral

You can't do that, said the judge

你不能这样做，阎王说。

旁白 neutral

Yes, I can, said Wukong

我偏要这样做，悟空说。

旁白 neutral

Next, Wukong found the names of all the other monkeys and apes

接着，悟空找到了所有其他猴子和猿猴的名字。

He crossed out their names too

他也把它们的名字全部划掉了。

旁白 neutral

Now I really will live forever, said Wukong

现在我真的可以长生不老了，悟空说。

And so will all of my subjects
