They walked through a beautiful garden until they came to a maze

But it was impossible!

" What's that?" Gerald picked up a red thread on the ground

“那是什么？”杰拉尔德捡起地上的一根红线。

One end was tied to a thimble, but the other end..

一端系着一个顶针，但另一端……

" There is no other end!" Gerald realized

“根本就没有另一端！”杰拉尔德意识到。

" Maybe it leads to something!"

“也许它通向某个东西！”

" I think the gardener put it there," said Jimmy

“我想那是园丁放在那儿的，”吉米说。

" Look at the crown on that thimble," said Kathleen

“看啊，顶针上有个王冠，”凯瑟琳说。

" Do you think a gardener would have a princess' silver thimble?"

" Let's follow the thread."

“咱们跟着这条线走吧。”

Gerald walked forward, winding the thread around his fingers as he went

The thread led them into the middle of the maze

There they found a circle of green lawn with a sundial in the center

All around the edge of the circle was a marble seat

The thread ran across the lawn

It ended in the hand of someone sleeping on the seat!

" It's an enchanted princess!" said Gerald

" Her clothes are so old-fashioned," said Kathleen

" She must have fallen asleep a hundred years ago."

" She isn't really a princess," said Jimmy

Gerald and Kathleen laughed

Every part of the adventure — the cave, the maze, the thread — felt magical to them

" Lift up the veil, Gerald," whispered Kathleen

" Now, Gerald, you must wake the princess," said Kathleen

" She's not a princess," insisted Jimmy

" She's only a little girl dressed up like a princess

Look at how long her dress is

She won't be any taller than Gerald when she stands up."

Kathleen ignored him

" Gerald, you're the oldest

You have to kiss her awake."

" Not me!" cried Gerald

" She'll slap me the minute she wakes up."

" Then I'll do it," said Kathleen

" But I don't think it'll do any good."

" I don't mind kissing her," said Jimmy

With that, Jimmy planted a loud kiss on the princess' cheek

The three children stood waiting to see what would happen next

The princess opened her large, dark eyes

She stretched her arms and yawned

Then she said," So the hundred years are over?

" I am," said Jimmy

“是我。”吉米说。

" My prince." The princess held out her hand and Jimmy shook it hard

“我的王子。”公主伸出手，吉米用力握了握。

" But you aren't really a princess, are you?" he asked

“但你不是真正的公主，对吧？”他问道。

" Of course I am

“我当然是。

旁白 neutral

Look at my crown."

看看我的王冠。”

旁白 neutral

She pulled aside her veil to reveal a crown of diamonds

她拉开面纱，露出一顶钻石王冠。

" How did you ever get past the dragons?"

“你们究竟是怎么通过那些龙的？”

Gerald ignored her question

杰拉尔德没理会她的问题。

" Then this really is an enchanted castle?"

“那么这真的是一座魔法城堡？”

" Of course it is. Don't be stupid."

“当然是了。别傻了。”

The princess stood up and her dress fell in waves around her feet

公主站了起来，裙摆波浪般垂落在脚边。

" I told you her dress would be too long," said Jimmy

“我跟你们说过她的裙子太长了。”吉米说。

" It must have grown over the years," said the princess

“一定是这些年长长了。”公主说。

" Let's go back to the castle, and I'll show you all my lovely jewels

“我们回城堡去吧，我给你们看我所有可爱的珠宝。

Would you like that?"

你们喜欢吗？”

" Yes," said Gerald." But..."

“喜欢，”杰拉尔德说。“但是……”

" But what?" The princess sounded impatient

“但是什么？”公主听起来不耐烦了。

" But we're awfully hungry

“但是我们非常饿。

旁白 neutral

We never got to eat our lunch."

我们还没吃午饭呢。”

The princess looked at the sundial

It was three o'clock

" You've had nothing to eat for hours

“你们好几个小时没吃东西了。

I've had nothing to eat for a hundred years!"
